Ebony's Short Stories ~Fall of the Cause UP!!~

Here is a new short story for you guys =D Its called Fall of the Cause. It is the ending to a roleplay on my site, but since my site if pretty much dead i figured it would be alright to write the ending to this story.

Alright, this RP wa based on the Hawksong book series where people could shapeshift from human to either snake or bird. The types of snakes there were cobra(rulers), tiapan, boa white and a few others. The bird types are hawk(rulers) sparrow, crow and raven. These kingdoms hate eachother and fight none stop. The book series is about how the war was stopped. The RP was about a rebellion that tried to stop the war before Zane Cobriana and Danica Shardea stopped the war. This RP took place around six characters but by the end we had a few extras. The main characters were Sky Shardea, Gage Cobriana, Shayla Junicious, and Jasmine Kinzairly. A few extra characters were added such as Vern and Gareth but that was what the RP was centered around.

To those who played those characters and i didnt have permission to use them i am sorry!

~WARNING!~

The following story has blood and violence! If you think it is to graphic (which i dont think it is because some warriors RPs are worse) but if you dont like stories with some blood in it please dont continue reading. Just giving a short warning. Thank you! Enjoy!

Fall of the Cause

Dark garnet red colored eye stared out across a battle field that was stained a deep crimson. All around the tall raven haired man lay bodies of his comrades, his friends, the people he considered family. Pain flooded his chest as his grip on the reins of his horse tightened. The white horse with the brown spot and blue eyes he sat across gave a soft accepting whicker. Ahead of them both was a line of horses and foot soldiers that had the intent to kill in their brown and gold eyes. Behind them, on the opposite side of the hill he and his rebellion rested upon waited another army. This time jewel colored eyes met his garnet eyes. These jewel eyed men and women had once been his country, the ones he was sworn to.

A small hand gripped his. "Gage?" a woman with a voice that could make angels hearts race spoke to him. The man turned his face to see his leader, his friend and the love of his life sitting upon her brown stallion with warm golden eyes. "This is it then?" She asked but it sounded more like a statement. The dark haired mans eyes grew dark for a moment.

"We wont be going without a fight." His voice sounded raspy from all the shouting and commands he had given that day. "Sky... I didnt want this to happen. I didnt want it to end like this... I," his voice was cut off as Sky touched her fingers to his lips, silencing him.

"Its going to be alright. We wont be forgotten here. Not in a thousand years. We have fought with our lives to protect our belief. This war will end. Whether it was killing both leaders or by making a peace treaty." With a reserved sigh she glanced away. "I know what we have done here couldnt have been in vain." The slightest shaking of her shoulders showed Gage that she was scared. She didnt want to die. No she wanted to live, to see the dawn with Gage standing proudly at her side.

"Sky? Gage?" whispered a soft voice, one that Gage knew very well. He turned his garnet eyes to see Shayla, the raven girl who had black eyes and one green pupil. It was still odd seeing that but Gage had gotten used to it. He reflected on how, not long ago they had been at each others throats and now, he had no other great friend like her.

Now she sat on a horse with one of the captains of the rebellion. Her Alistair, Vern. The brown haired crow still gave Gage a wary look. One arm was tightly wrapped around Shaylas waist to let everyone know that if her life was in jeopardy, he would gladly slaughter them. "Gage," the crow started, "This is the last stand... isnt it?" his voice was flat and even, as he had been taught to as a child, using all the avian reserve he could. Yet his chocolate brown eyes held worry and anxiety for the woman he loved. The woman he had loved since he was a young boy. And yet he had not been her Alistair for all her life. Rather he had taken that place away from her former pair bond, Justin.

Gage gave a soft sigh to all of them and glanced to the sky. His hand gripped Skys for comfort. "It sure has been a pleasure being able to fight along side all of you." His eyes rested on Sky. Her beauty still stunned him. Her golden eyes glowed brighter than the sun. Her soft pale skin was warmer than the hottest fires. His cobra senses were sent in to a blissful shock every time he was around this beautiful warmth. Her golden brown hair that was highlighted with red flowed past her shoulders like a water fall, one that he would never get tired of. Yet there was something of an old rivalry. An old hatred he couldnt quite manage to let go of. It was apart of him, the hatred of all avian kind and most of all, his hatred of hawks. And yet, for all of the bad blood between the two races, the love he had for his commander couldnt be extinguished with a few petty words of hate from his family. No, this woman held his heart in a way that made the rest of the world have to wait.

The cobras eyes grew soft as he looked away. "Aunt Sky?" sounded a hesitant voice. Gage knew the young boy as Gareth, Skys nephew. The boy who had rescued her when she had been captured in Hawks Keep after the incident when Gage had almost killed the woman he loved. "Are we really... going to die?" His voice was young and scared. The boy had so much to live for. He was only thirteen. To young to have known life the way it was supposed to be. He hadnt found the woman he would spend his life with. Yet here he was, on the battle field that would end his life.

Sky gave him a sorrowful glance. "Gareth..." She started only to be interrupted by Jasmine. The young girl wrapped an arm around the young hawks shoulders and whispered.

"Dont worry Gareth. It will be alright." The two young avian children had grown close in the time they had spent together, even though Jasmine was four years older then the young hawk. Now Jasmine acted like the boy was hers to protect. Gareth turned his golden eyes to her and nodded hesitantly.

A shout from across the battle field caught Gages ear. "Well, well, well little sister. It seems as though you have finally lost. Did you honestly think your little band of renegades and rogues could stand up to the royal flight and Hawk Keeps army?" Mocking laughter rose from the avian army, burning away at Gages patients. The woman that shouted was Skys sister, the Tuuli Thea of the avian kind, their queen and ruler.

"Little brother," Shouted another voice, one that Gage recognized from his childhood. Gage turned in his saddle to meet the eyes of his cobra brother, Isaiah. The same color of garnet eyes that were said to be able to freeze the blood of any avian met with a second pair of garnet eyes. Both were serious and deadly. "I am not surprised in the least." His brother taunted, "You were always the weak link in the chain. When you disappeared one night we had hoped that you had been killed by the royal flight, and then we would at least be spared of having to see you again. And yet, here we are now. I do not regret this little brother."

Gages face contorted in to a mask of rage. Yet Skys hand tightened around his even more, pulling him back to the tall grassy hill that he and the rebellion, or what was left of it, sat upon. Gage glanced around to his companions for perhaps the last time. He looked away and let go of Skys hand. He tensed making his leather suite, which had a dark blue scale pattern imprinted in to it, ripple. "Guys..." he started, "Lets give em heck," He laughed. He sat up tall and proud. His pale face looked more kingly then it ever had before. His garnet eyes turned to the rebellion. His left hand grabbed the pommel of the short sword on his left side, unsheathing the thin blade so that the blade faced toward the outside of his body rather then the inside.

With a sad smile and tapped his horse, Casper, to move. His voice lifted above all others "Line formation!" As the words left his lips, the troops, whether they were on horse back or on foot, stood shoulder to shoulder in a line. "We have worked to hard for our lives to be forgotten!" He called as he spurred Casper to walk down the line. "The men and women who fought here today shall not be forgotten! We will not be remembered for being a band of avians and serpiente who fought to make their belief known. No my friends! We shall be remembered as brave men and women who fought for the freedom of your children. So they could have the right to grow up and see the beauty in the sunrise. They will grow to see the magic in finding love. So they wouldnt have to wake up in the morning and wonder if that day, the angel of death would seek them out. We free men and women fought here for the future. Not because of our past. Not so we could settle a long forgotten blood feud! We have proved that avian and serpiente can live side by side. We have proved that we can love one another!" The eyes of the people he spoke to lit on fire with determination, pride and love.

These were his people, avian and serpiente alike. They shared a common goal, to see that their future held a lasting peace, one that would allow for a serpent child to play with an avian child. "My dear comrades, my family, my friends, our memory shall live on. They will not forget us because we will not go quietly in to death! No we shall go shouting at the top of our lungs that we fought for what was right. That our lives were sacrificed for the good our people, for our future! My friends, it has been an honor to serve you here." His garnet eyes turned to his commander, "Sky, you have shown us the way, lit the path for all the lost souls seeking to make our future a brighter one. You shall be remembered as a hero."

Turning his eyes to the armies that threatened their very lives, he grinned brightly. "We wont let them forget us! We cant! Lets give em heck!" He called out laughing loudly. Cheers rose from the men and women that would die here today. In a glorious cry of friendship and love, their voices lifted. It drowned out all the sound around the battle field as Gage shouted, "Charge!" The group of rebels surged forward. Sky rode along side her second in command, Gage, as they charged down the hill. The voices that would be silent soon, roared in defiance. Their arms rose with swords, shields, spears and bows ready to take the lives of the enemy.

The sound of drawn bow string hit Gages ear, and the sight of arrow scraping across the sky signaled the first of the deaths to come. Men and women around Gage fell to the deadly volley of arrows. Yet still the rebellions charged down the hill with voices louder than the greatest thunder. The enemys eyes grew scared as death was nearly upon them.

Gage gave out a glorious battle cry as he Casper rammed in to the first wall of men. The avian army fell under the hooves and swords of the rebels. The black haired cobra sliced his sword through the air taking lives of men he had never known. Cold and heartless he jumped from Caspers back as he half way shifted forms. Scales rippled on his body and fangs appeared in his mouth. He sliced he blade through the air catching more men under his ruthless attack. A searing pain raced through his back as an avian male sliced him diagonally from his shoulder to his hip. Gage whirled around catching the man in the ribs with his short sword.

The attacker fell and his blood soaked his clothes. Gage growled and charged at another avian. A voice cried out from the throng of men and women, "Shayla!" Gages heart grew cold as he raced toward the sound. His blade traced across avian throats and chests as he glided in and out of the numerous bodies. Standing in the middle of a battle scene was Vern. The crow had a sword in his stomach but the avian that had done the deed was stuck in place. Vern gripped the hand and sword of the man. The shocked avian twisted and pulled against Vern as he tried to escape.

Another voice shrieked as Vern began to stagger, "Vern! No!" Shayla charged at the avian with the sword in Verns stomach. With a sword in her hand she ended the mans life. Her beloved Vern collapsed to the ground. Blood trickled from his mouth and his eyes fluttered trying to stay open. Shayla fell at his side and grasped him in her arms. She held him tightly and cried in to his hair. "Please! Please Vern dont leave me." She cried. Gage saw the crows hand touch her cheek as he leaned up for one last kiss from his beloved.

"I am sorry Shayla, I wanted to see the morning sun with you... but it looks like I am going to have the wait huh?" He tried to laugh but only wound up sputter the blood that welled in his mouth. His chocolate eyes stared at her with more warmth than Gage had thought was possible for the avian male. Shaylas shoulder shook with her grief as Verns eyes slowly shut and he gave a soft sigh. The avian was dead.

Shayla threw her head back and roared to the sky in pain. Gage stepped forward through the battle trying to get to the raven but before he could reach her, she grabbed Verns sword and charged at the closest enemy avian. Her eyes full of grief and rage. Gage shouted trying to get her attention but a wall of fighting men came in between him and Shayla. He couldnt get through. All he knew was that Shayla was going to be with Vern again soon.

The cobra turned and sliced at more men, letting them fall to his blade. Up ahead he saw Jasmine collapsed on the floor with Gareth not to far away. Bile rose in Gages throat. "They were only children!" The enraged man roared. He stabbed another avian and turned to another. He bit down harshly in to the man letting his cobra poison stop his heart. The serpent let go and jumped away. His dark red eyes turned between more people as he sliced through them. Another pain shot through his arm as a blade appeared in his left shoulder. The crimson stained steel glittered in the setting sun. In a moments notice the blade disappeared as the wielder of the weapon pulled it out of his body. Gage roared in pain. His left arm fell limp at his side, dropping his own crimson stained blade.

Gage, as fast as lightning, whirled around and bit deeply in to the mans neck, shooting poison through his veins. The man shuddered as he fell to the ground. Gage turned as more of the rebellion fell to the avian army. Without warning the battle stopped. The avian people rushed away leaving a large circle clearing where Gage stood. Not to far away his commander, the love of his life, stood with an arrow piercing just above where her heart was. Icy cold claws gripped Gages heart and he staggered forward. Skys eyes were deadly cold to the world around her. Her legs trembled and her hand gripped where the arrow had entered her.

"Sky," Gage rasped. His legs felt useless now. All the strength he had trained his body to have, now failed him. He staggered closer only to see all of skys strength leave her. She collapsed to the ground. Her eyes were growing duller. Gage hurriedly stumbled to her side. He wrapped his right arm under her shoulders and lifted her head from the ground. Joy filled the hawks dulling eyes as he gripped her close to his chest. "Sky... I know I havent said it properly... but... I love you. I have loved you for so long now" Skys soft hand touched his lips silencing him.

"I know Gage," She smiled, "I saw it every time you looked at me. Gage... I... I..." Her voice grew raspier as she tried to finish her sentence. Before she could reply Gage leaned down and pressed his lips gently to hers, conveying every unspoken word between them, showing every misunderstood emotion. Her burning lips grew colder against his as life ebbed from her body. Gage pulled his lips away and hugged her tighter. I" will be there soon," He whispered in to her hair, his shoulders shook as he gently let his head hang on his shoulders.

The last thing the cobra prince heard was, "Aim!" Bow string pulling back with trained hands holding them, "Fire!" The horrid sound of flying arrows ripped through the air as biting pain stabbed Gage everywhere. The world fell black. The rebellion would soon be... forgotten.

*crying almost because she thought it was so good, and Shayla was basically her... xD* I loved that, Ebonners! Poor Gage! He had to watch all of them die before his eyes... *sniff* *slams head against wall* To quote Harry Potter from PPP, "Angst, angst, angst...." xD Not funny, Floresta... *talking to herself*

Okay, enough of the stupid things. xD

I thought this was a good, honorable ending to the RP, Ebonners. It has to be one of my favorite RPs, next to Maya. :3 I definitely loved the emotions that you made clear in the story; omigawsh, they died! is what went through my mind. I'm sure this was a proper ending to the RP, and I'm glad you made it, or I wouldn't have ever read the series, and made it popular between my friends and I. :'D And for some reason I keep forgetting that Gage and Sky never admitted they loved each other in the RP... I guess it was because you could basically all ready tell they loved each other. xD But through and through, my heart was racing. It was a good story, Ebonners! :33333333

I am so glad! Sorry you had to read it without quotation marks, i was editing it when my mom called me away from teh computer for a while... anyway i so glad you liked it! This is always how i imnagined it would end because it took place before the book series and the war didnt end by these rebel's hands. I tried to use all the characters that stuck around at the point we were at. XD I am kindah sad that everyone had to die though... it was unavoidable though XD Makes for a good sad ending unfortunantly... oh well! XD Thanks so much for reading it and being such a great RPer when doing this one! I loved Rebels with a Cause! XD

No problem! (Problem: I'm sick and still have to go to practice. Stupid commitment. And stupid virus...) I couldn't have done any better; and I loved the experience of RPing with all of you! It was a pleasure and honor to have! It went far, and it had such long posts. xD I will always remember Rebels with a Cause with all my heart, because that's where my love for the name Shayla came from. :3 Forever and ever.
