Joanna was laying in bed, having just woken up due to the horrible silence that now rested in her room. She always had a fan going, it was her white noise, the only way she could sleep comfortably, and now it was off. Was it not working? It was far too early for her to even be alive at the moment, she'd gotten in at around four am the night before, and gone straight to bed. And now to be woken up, what? Thirty minutes later? Sure, it was an exaggeration, but it felt like only thirty minutes. And now there was banging on her door. She let out a groan and rolled over onto her stomach, pulling a pillow over her head to block out the banging. But it wouldn't stop, of course it wouldn't stop. "What!?" She called out angrily.
Jo heard the door open and her father saying, "Did you do something?"
"What are you talking about?" The girl groaned into her bed.
"I can't hear you, was that a yes?" Her father said with agitation in his voice.
Jo jerked the pillow off her head, far too tired to be dealing with this right now. What could he possibly think she did? "I said what are you talking about?"
"We haven't got any power, I assumed you had something to do with it."
"Why would I be the cause for no power?" At least she had an explanation to her fan.
"You're always the cause for something around here. Getting back at dawn every day, you could ruin a few things."
Joanna rolled her eyes. "What do you want me to do about it dad? I can't snap my fingers and bring it back on. Call the power company or something."
"Phones are out too, genius. Get out of bed and go fix it."
Jo finally turned her face to his. "I don't know a dang thing on fixing the power."
"Guess it's time you learned to do something with your life." With that, the man left. Jo simply rolled over and was fully intending on going back to sleep when she heard a loud, "UP!" And she let out a loud exaggerated sigh as she kicked off her covers, realizing she hadn't changed from the night before. She shrugged it off and just climbed out of bed. Wearing a black tank top, dark tight denim jeans, and a black leather jacket. She pulled on a pair of combat boots and headed downstairs. She had no idea what she was doing, what did someone generally do when going to fix the power? She couldn't fix it. She knew pretty freaking well she couldn't fix it. So instead, Jo just opened the door, and headed outside to pretend she was trying to fix it.

Galdur woke up as she always did, to warm sunlight filtering in through the window of the room she shared with her twin. She stretched without getting up yet, checking to see if Eir had woken up yet. Usually they awoke at the same time, though there were occasions when one of them would wake up far earlier than the other. That was just about the only time they had away from each other, but neither complained. After all, it was nice to always have a companion that shared your interests and understood you better than your own parents. Not that she had anything against their parents - it was simply a different relationship.

This morning felt different, though. Something in the air, maybe? Probably just the humidity, then. Galdur sat up, yawning loudly, hoping to wake Eir, if he wasn't already. After all, how could she perform a morning duet without a partner? She blinked once, twice, the sun shining in her pale eyes, and jumped out of bed, heading for the bathroom to brush her teeth. Their father had doubtless left for work already, even on a Saturday, and their mother had gone to the grocery to run errands, as she always did on weekend mornings. It was nice having the house to themselves, without the droning of the television, or the whining of a kettle in the background.

"You up yet, Eir? The music can't wait forever!" She strode out of the bathroom, foaming toothbrush in hand, waving at him as if chiding him. "You know how our teacher would be 'utterly disappointed' if she found out we weren't practicing first thing in the morning!" Sticking the toothbrush back in her mouth and finishing the job, she spat into the sink, humming to herself as she did. Galdur had never been able to sit still for long, but then, that was an easy problem to solve. She just had to keep moving.

Once finished in the ensuite bathroom, she came back out, her hair already brushed straight and tied to the left, the rest up in the back. "Your turn!" Grinning cheerfully, she swept past him and pulled open the wardrobe doors, diving into the array of clothes that they shared, all of them similar in shade and style, though with some outstanding differences. Formal attire, for instance, was often decorated with dazzling sparkles, or floral additions. Casual was more or less the same type of thing for the both of them, pale, loose-fitting clothes. Comfortable, yet fashionable as well. Pulling out a white shirt and beige pants, she tsked and reached further back, for a different cut shirt. Maybe one that had the shoulders cut out, giving the impression of sleeves, yet still feeling like a tank top. Yes, that was definitely what today's weather called for. And some beige shorts, to keep from getting too warm during the day.

Then she went to assemble her flute, making certain that it was clean and shining before putting the pieces together. All this she did while waiting for Eir to complete his daily routine, and once she finished creating her flute, she began a warmup melody, something to loosen the lips and wake her up, make certain she was focused.

"At least it's still morning. Hopefully it'll be up by this evening. If not, I suppose we can go to sleep early." Eir turned to their water filter to fill his glass up, musing on their plans for the day. Draining the glass and setting it down with a soft clink, he turned to dig around for his own phone, only to find it wasn't where he left it.

"Hm. Go out for breakfast? But we have all this food here, and it might go bad.... Especially the milk and the ice cream and the eggs and the like. I think we should finish up the perishables first? And we should probably make dinner now, in case it gets dark and the power still isn't back." Eir made a brief mental inventory of the fridge. Luckily, they were supposed to restock tomorrow, so there wasn't a whole lot of stuff in the fridge, but enough perishables that they could make enough to stuff them for the day.

"But I agree; we should go out today." He peeked out the window. "It's very nice, and it's not like there's much to do if we stay indoors today." Turning to his sister, then glancing at the fridge, he smiled. "But first I think we should make breakfast, yes?"

Max walked through the house, trying different appliances, but he knew what he would find. Nothing worked. Nothing turned on. With a frustrated sigh, Max fell back on the couch. Thats when he heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs. A second later, Tony, the Knebels son, appeared.
Tony was a large boy with messy, jet black hair and eyes so dark they could have been black. He looked extremely angry, and his eyes fixed right on his older brother.
Very funny, Max. Now what did you do with my power? he snarled.
Nothing. The powers out in the rest of the house, too, Max replied. Tony, grumbling, turned to the TV and tried to turn it on, but nothing happened. His dark eyes widened and he looked back at Max, who shrugged. Ill go check and see if any of the neighbors have power. Maybe they can help us. With that, he stood and headed out the front door.
When he stepped outside, Max expected to hear the sounds of cars driving down the streets and early risers mowing their lawns, but strangely, the only sounds were birds chirping. Max narrowed his eyes and looked around to see other people stepping outside and looking around in a confused manner.
Hey, Max! called a voice from across the street. Max looked up to see their neighbor, Mr. Scout. Do you guys have power over there?
No, and Im guessing you dont either? Max yelled back. Mr. Scout shook his head.
Maybe its a problem with the power plant! Max just shrugged, waved good-bye to Mr. Scout, and headed back inside. Doubtful throughts raced through his mind. How could a power plant problem turn off his computer? How come hed heard no cars even though there was a highway two blocks north of his house?
When the auburn-haired boy entered the kitchen, he saw Cody trying to change a light bulb.
Mr. Scout doesnt have power either. I dont think anyone does. Cody shrugged without looking up. Max wasnt sure what to do. How could they get anywhere if the car didnt work? How could they hear anything if the phones, TV, and Internet connection werent working either? Maybe the power would turn back on soon, but maybe it wouldnt. Max sat down again and shuddered. Why the heck was this happening?

OOC: Hey Jaggedie, is the Tony in your post supposed to be the Tony from my post, or is that coincidence? Cause if he is, that'd make it easier for our characters to be introduced to each other. Just wanting to make sure.

IC:

Trisha walked back inside the house, completely confused about what was going on. Her mother seemed a bit unconcerned, that is until she saw the look on her daughter's face. "What, couldn't figure it out?" she snarled, "Guess that's why you flunked out last year." Great, just another jab from her mother. Perfect. Trisha hated it when her mother actually started paying attention to her existence because that only meant she'd do everything she could to remind that she'd failed to move on to being a senior. Not only that though, she'd been born so close to the cut off line for the grade above her. Just a week earlier, and she could have been a senior anyway. That, of course, wasn't Trisha's fault, but she felt like her mother blamed her in some way.
"Liz?" a voice called from the back room. It's deep familiar deep baritone resonance made Trisha's mouth pull down in to a frown, "Is the water running out there?" Trisha's mother gave her daughter a look, expecting her to go check. With a deep sigh, the girl made her way back to the kitchen and turned it on. It made a few sputtering sounds before a small wave of water rushed out and then stopped. Weird. The water wasn't running either? Even with a power outage, usually the water worked.
"No dad," the girl called back.
Her father let out a series of curses as he appeared from the back bedroom hallway and said, "Electricity is off... The water pump must've gone with it."
Trisha felt like it was a bad idea to ask, but she wanted to know why, "How come?"
"Cause it's run on electricity," he snapped sarcastically at her.
Trisha flinched back before she growled, "Why don't you two figure out what's going on. I've got to go meet with Tony." She turned on her heel only to be chased by her father's voice.
"Oh no you don't! Get you backside back over here," her father shouted at her as she opened the front door. Trisha didn't even bother saying good by as she walked out of the house, down the path beside the lawn and out on to the sidewalk. It took the girl a moment to realize that everything here was absolutely quiet. It was unnerving.

"Hm?" Galdur pulled her flute away, the music dwindling to nothing as she stopped her exercises. "I suppose it's possible!" She called down, putting her flute gently back in its case. They hadn't been using any electricity thus far, so who knew? She walked out to the living room and tried turning on the t.v., but to no avail. She frowned, reaching for the phone to call their parents and inform them of the situation, but the phone was dead too. "Do you think it's a power outage, brother?" She frowned at the phone, the useless piece of technology when it wasn't powered, and reached over to the dresser, where their cell phones were.

"That's...strange. Brother, my cell isn't turning on either. But I'm certain I was charging it all night..." She frowned. "Maybe I forgot." That would certainly make more sense - how could a power outage take out batteries, anyway? Ridiculous. She walked out into the kitchen, aware of the silence in place of the humming of the refrigerator. "The food in there is going to spoil, if we're not careful. Better to leave the doors closed, I guess!" After all, the refrigerator was insulated. Even if there wasn't any cold air blowing in, it would keep whatever cool air was in there as long as the doors didn't open for too long. But even that wasn't a permanent solution.

"Maybe we should just go out and get breakfast at a cafe? Mother and Father both know we haven't eaten out in a while. I'm sure they won't mind!" She was warming up to the idea more and more, a child-like bounce entering her step as she moved around the kitchen. "C'mon! Let's go out today!" After all, cold pizza was only good when it was cold.

Ooc: Ebony- It wasn't originally, but that would definitely make this a whole lot easier right now haha. I believe it's a good idea.

Ic: Max sat there on the couch, trying to decide what to do about this power outage. Truthfully, it scared him. Nothing was working. That wasn't the case with the usual loss of electricity. Maybe he could take a little trip down to the local power plant and try to find out if anyone there knew what was going on. The more he thought about it, the more that sounded like a good plan. However, Max had absolutely no idea where the power plant was, but if he asked around, maybe he could figure it out. With that, Max began collecting things that might come in handy. He didn't know how long it would be to walk to the power plant, so he packed a bag with some granola bars and a jacket, just in case. His town was sort-of big, so the plant could be anywhere. Max had to prepare for the worst. He grabbed a flashlight and filled a CamelBack bottle with water.
In the hall, Max ran straight into Tony, who seemed to be preparing for something, too.
"Watch it!" he snapped. When Tony got an eyefull of Max's provisions, he seemed suspicious. "What are you doing?" Max noticed that Tony had some books under his arms.
"I could ask you the same thing," he said. Tony sighed.
"I'm meeting Trisha soon, power or not." That's when Max remembered, Tony was some sort of super-smart brainiac, and he was a tutor to some girl who was held back a grade. "She's coming here today, so you might want to leave the house, but first tell me what you're doing."
"No," Max said, and he just turned and walked away before Tony could ask any more questions. He found it a little odd that this Trisha person was coming here. Usually Tony would go over to her place. He had never met his little brother's study partner. Maybe he could put off his expedition so he could meet her.

Feeling uneasy, Tyler shifts himself out of the booth, the right side of his body burning in protest. Holding back a grimace, he stuffs his hands in the pockets of his jeans again and rummages around for his wallet, phone and keys. Satisfied with the fact he finds them, he turns to Jean with a serious face he rarely holds when he eats at the diner. "I'm going to see what the problem is, Jean. If I don't return, well - I'm off on an adventure, I guess." He leans to get his backpack and rummages through it, finding his second pair of athletic clothes, extra money, and his iPod, which he didn't dare touch.

"Well, you hold on there for a moment, dear. I'll be right back." Strolling into the kitchen, she returns with her arms full of bread, cheese and fruit. "It'll go bad if we don't serve it now. So take it. You didn't get to have your breakfast."

With a grin, he nods and arranges the food in a napkin, folding it up roughly and tossing it in his bag. Zipping it closed, he throws it over his shoulder and exits the diner. "Thanks, Jean. I'll come back as soon as I can."

"Oh, I won't worry. You're a strong boy - you'll survive!" She waves with a smile, and then as the door closes, he hears her turn around and bark orders at Keith.

Suppressing a laugh, he walks the short distance to his car and thanks the heavens that he forgot to lock his car. Under his breath, he mutters something that sounds like, "Forgetfulness is good... take that, mom," and opens his car, rummaging through the mess that is, well, his car. "Well, I forgot to call mom... She's probably freaking out - oh, hey, here's where my advil went - and dad's probably telling her to leave me alone. Suddenly there was a knocking sound on the window of his car. Frowning, he looks up and meets the steely gaze of a cop.

"Sir, we have to ask you that, if you are within walking distance of your apartment, you return home. Otherwise, please return to the establishment you were originally in."

With a nervous nod, Tyler holds up his advil. "I just needed some advil. My knee's been bothering me as of late. I can walk back to my apartment."

"Alright, sir. Have a nice day."

"You too, officer."

As the police officer walked away, Tyler continued to rummage through the floor of the back of his car until he found the cane his friends had jokingly given him his freshman year. Deciding that he was going to be walking, he thought that, maybe it wasn't so bad of a gag gift after all. Closing his car doors, he sighed and adjusted his backpack before stiffly walking off.

OOC: Just to get some introductions, I'm going to make Ebbs and my character neighbors, or at least lives around each other. :) If that's cool.

Jo had walked to the front of her house, and to the road. She looked around, vaguely realizing that this was not where she could possibly fix the power. Not that she really intending too anyway. Joanna had no idea how she would, or why her father insisted she did. Probably anything to get her out of the house. Which she really wasn't complaining. Jo realized how quiet it was. Not that she was ever up at this time, but it was the morning. She imagined at least some sort of noise going on outside. The girl looked around, maybe someone else could answer her question? To her left, she saw a girl walking down the sidewalk. Had she ever seen her before? Nah, not that she could remember. But Joanna wasn't really one for noticing and remembering people she wasn't close with. "Hey, kid!" She called out and made a small jog over to her, and then walking backwards as she took in the girl before her. She looked so...clean. Not that Joanna wasn't, but she guessed it was the girl's bright eyes and pale skin, and with the golden highlights. Whereas Jo had dark hair, and dark clothes. And is wasn't that she was a kid, it was just the name that came out as she didn't know who this girl was. "You know what's going on? Or, save the trouble and just tell me how to fix it? If ya know. Because I really don't want to be up at this time, but my old man wants me to fix it. So...anything?"

"Sure!" She grinned, searching a nearby drawer for the matches. Luckily they had a gas stove - Father had been adamant on not getting rid of it until it was well and truly broken - so they'd be able to cook all they wanted to. Pulling out the matches, she looked into the fridge, trying to keep the door mostly closed. "Maybe we should just clean it out and make whatever we can out of it? It can be our lunch too!" Pulling out whatever was left - it really wasn't much - she arrayed them on the counter, her eyes alight with amusement. "It's like a puzzle, brother! We need to figure out how to use all of this for three meals and not make anything disgusting." A warm laugh, and she surveyed the ingredients.

They had a half-dozen eggs, a third of a gallon of milk, part of a sausage, a packet of bacon, two wedges of cheese, some lettuce, a quarter of a loaf of bread, mayonnaise, and two tomatoes. Some herbs as well, and there was fruit on the counter behind them, most of which could last a day or two more. It wasn't too much, but then she was forgetting the freezer! They had some vanilla ice cream, there, and a few of those snacks that you could bake in the oven for less than half an hour. They wouldn't be here long, especially if they wanted to get out before it got too hot.

"I'll go put away our instruments, then! You're better at making breakfast, anyway." She grinned cheerfully and sprang up the stairs to their room, picking up Eir's violin gently, as if it were the Queen's Crown Jewel - which it was, to Eir - and setting it in its case, closing it with a quiet snap. She moved to her flute, pulling the pieces apart, upset that they hadn't gotten to play for long, and putting them in the case. Once she closed that too, she picked them up and carried them down the stairs, and down again, into the cellar. In a far corner, under a tile, was where they kept their safety deposit box. It was quite large, and already held their antique, expensive version of Monopoly. She slid the violin and flute in after unlocking it, closing the door with barely a sound and sliding the tile over it. She hopped up, dusting her hands off, and flew back up the stairs, closing the cellar door.

"There! All done. Do you want sandwiches for lunch, brother?"
