Ellie was deeply into a story of Knights and Magic. They were her favorite stories, hearing about the prince who slayed the dragon and saved the princess. She always imagined herself the princess, waiting to be saved, and Ray as the prince, always ready to save her.
Ray was Ellie's dad, but dad never seemed to fit him. He always had his nose deep in a book, too. He seemed like more of a best friend than a dad, so She called him Ray, even though his name was Rennald.
The two of them read whenever they could. They read over breakfast. They read while they worked. They read when they stoped working. They read before they sleeped. Ellie always read as late as she could stay up. When her eyes warned her they'd had enough, they started to flutter, and she closed the cover gently, putting it under her pillow. Her dad had told her once, that if you listened hard enough, the books whispered to you in your sleep. Ellie heard them, and sometimes she whispered back.
Ellie closed her book, breating in deep. The spark of adventure was still in her eyes, and she could taste the will to save the princess on her tounge. Her eyes had fluttered though, so she looked at the cover of the book once more, slipping it under her pillow and blowing out the candle next to her bed. We'll adventure once more tomorrow, it whispered through her pillow. She smiled, the warm feeling that book magic brought lulling her to sleep.
She awoke again with a start, taking in several things at once.
Ellie's candle had been knocked off of her side table. It had stood there for the week, because she just loved the smell. She could have sworn it had grown wax roots through the wood.
She was freezing, even though she wore a long-sleeved nightgown. She resisted the urge to pull her blanket up fiercely, glancing around for the source of the cold. Ignoring the last thing, she stepped quietly out of her bed, the wooden floors wrapping it's cold fingers around her ankles. She tip-toed to her window, gazing softly at the tan curtains in the night breeze. They billowed around her like the pictures Ray had of her mom, with beautiful gold hair like none other. The moonlight cast them around her with a blue sheen.
Pulling herself out of old memories, she closed the window as quietly as she could, which wasstill a great feat for her small pink hands. She saw herself in the reflection of the window, a cold pink tint to her cheeks above a thin layer of freckles. The same hair she'd imagined was settled around her shoulders with a gentle curl. Her light eyes glowed the same color as the moonlight.
She heard a creek and turned her attention to the third and final thing she'd noticed earlyer. The shadows of someone walking in the hall. She walked on silent toes to the door, touching her nose to the wood and peaking through the keyhole. There was a man, looking for something. She could tell this immediately by the way he turned papers and books over in the kitchen. She couldn't see his face, but he was tall with a small build, with long limbs and short hair. It was the color of the bark on trees. A candle in it's holder flickered to life suddenly, as if by magic. Ellie had to hold a hand to her mouth to hide her gasp of surprise.
This man had scars covering his face. They were jagged, ending oddly. It looked like a thin layer of wax had been but over the gashes, holding his face togeather. The one thing that the scars drew her attention to though, were his eyes. They were the same brown as his hair, but they flickered in time witht he fire. He didn't look like he was finding what he wanted to so well.

At the beginning of the year, Paul was like, "Hey, read this book series! I have a feeling you'd like it." So I read it... and fell in love with it! I HATE THE INDIAN BOY. MY GODS.... (you have to read Inkspell to understand what i mean. Lol!)
This was really, really good, Lily! I'd just suggest using, 'she,' a little less. (Learned that fact from an actual author. The woman who wrote the children's book, 'Beethoven's Paradise'.)

Yeah, I've been using "she" instead of "I" after SM's Twilight incident. o.e
Thanks for the reveiw, Floresta! ;DD I am in the beginning of Inkspell right now. DD; I love romance of all kinds in books, and Meggie is really sweet, so I can only hope I like the two better than you. ;DD
