Snowfur turned and saw Embertail and Skyfeather talking. Her eyes looked at them suspisciously. What were they talking about? She blinked her green eyes and twisted around to see Riverheart and his newly made apprentice, Boulderpaw. She grinned and trotted towards him, "Hey new mentor! Congratulations, to the both of you!" Her green eyes flashed at the mentor and apprentice. They seemed a pretty happy together and her face lit up happily. She then trotted out of camp towards the old Thunderclan digging place, her hidding place.

Skyfeather pulled back in shock, "Something wrong with us?! What do you mean! There isnt anything wrong with us! Its got to be them!" Yet Embertail's words struck her core. It had to be them that there was something wrong with... They didnt know their mother, perhaps Twisterstep had mated with a rogue or another clan cat. That might be it! "We have to talk to Twisterstep! I know he knows why they hate us." THe she cat's ears drooped. She loved her father and didnt want to believe that he was the source of the cats hatred toward her and her brother.
Embertail stood shocked at Skyfeather. "There's nothing wrong with Twisterstep!" he shouted. "We have to go find him!" Embertail led the way out into the camp to look for his father. He saw him talking to another warrior across the camp. He didn't think this was right. Nobody ever stared at him weird. If there was something wrong with them because of their father, they would hate him too, but the cats seemed to love him. He raced toward Twisterstep. "Papa! We need to talk to you," he explained.

Twisterstep turned from the cat he was talking to and smiled his loving smile at his son and daughter, "What is it?" The urgency in Embertail eyes made teh smile disappear from his mouth. He nodded softly to the cat he had just been talking to and trotted toward Embertail and Skyfeather, "Whats going on? Whats wrong?"
Skyfeather shifted on her paws and looked at the ground, "Papa... We need to talk to you about... Our mother." Twisterstep's eyes darkened for a moment as if remembering something painful. "Papa, we know that there is something wrong with us. Why would everyone in the clan hate us so much when all we've every been is loyal?! Papa, please tell what happened. Why do they all love you and hate us? Is it because our mom was from a different clan? Was she a rogue? Please!" Tears welled in her deep blue eyes and her lips trembled. The she cat knew that all her emotions and expressions were easy to read. She was the kind of cat that always had her heart open to the world so they could see the real true she cat behind the face. Yet that came at a price, she was the easies cat to hurt.
Embertail wanted to comfort his sister, but they needed answers. "Yeah Papa. We need your help," he pleaded. He stood fast, forcing the tears back and acting as casual as possible. He knew that Twisterstep wouldn't lie to his own kits. That would be wrong. He needed answers though. This wasn't something that they could do at another time. They were being tortured by their clan, and they didn't know why! This couldn't go on any longer. Embertail knew that it would hurt Skyfeathere even more, and also hurt him.

Birdsong crouched and slowly inched forward. The squirrel she was stalking was busy searching for food, not paying any attention to the warrior. Slowly, Birdsong slid forward. Each little paw-step was light and didn't make a sound, not a single noise. Birdsong was so focused on the prey that she didn't pay attention to the ground. And because of that... she stepped onto a twig. It snapped, and the squirrel stood up, completely focused on its surroundings. Frustrated, Birdsong leaped for her prey, but missed. The squirrel ran further into the territory. "Mouse dung!" Birdsong exclaimed. She chased after it, but then stopped as it crossed the border into ShadowClan territory. Birdsong cursed. She had just lost a piece of perfect prey. Annoyed, she trudged back to the original place and desperately searched for another scrap of prey to catch.
Twisterstep hesitated for a long time. His eyes turned to the high ledge where Jaystar normally sat, yet at this time the leader wasnt there. He had retired inside to sleep. The gold and white tom frowned deeply and looked back to his kits. "Youve needed to hear this for a long time but it was forbidden for anyone to say anything about it. Firestar gave us that order before he went to the elders den with his mate... All of us have kept it silent but i cant do that anymore... Not without seeing you to in so much pain..." Twisterstep sat down for a moment and the cats near sent strange looks toward him and his kits. "Do you two remember the story of Lionblaze and how i defeated him?"
Skyfeather tilted her head to the side, she knew the story very well. Twisterstep was a war hero to his clan, strong, brave and had the approval of Starclan on his side. Yet she didnt see how that came in to play here. "Yes we remember. Lionblaze was corrupted but the evil Tigerstar and used an army to force the clans in to being slaves. You Ghostfur, Dancewind, Duskfeather, Onyxclaw and our old friend Runningcloud all stood up to him no matter what. You were the one that actually killed him though... Why would they hate us when you are such a hero?"
Twisterstep's eyes darkened again, "They dont hate you because your fathers a hero... They hate you because your was a tyrant... A murderer, a killer and a liar." The golden tom's wild blue eyes were subdued. "Im not your papa... I found you in the den where i killed him. Lionblaze is your true father." The grim expression on Twisterstep's face allowed for no arguments.
Skyfeather's heart sank, "Y-you must be kidding right?" She tried to laugh it off as some bad joke but Twistestep wasnt lying. "NO!" she wailed to the sky above.
Looking ove his shoulder from his apprentice, he stared at who it came from. Skyfeather. So Twisterstep finally told them about their true father, Lionblaze. I'm sorry, he thought. Looking at Birdpaw, Kestreleye gave him a hard look. "First lesson. Do not jugde a cat until you personally know them. Rumors -- not all of them -- can be true. Most are lies they tell you to keep you from bringing back the past. Understood?" His voice was harsh, and though he tried to make it the opposite, his voice was like a hiss through his bone white teeth. He would never know what expression was on Skyfeather's face.
Truthfully, he was too scared to look.

okay, then. unfortunately loving an idiot who doesn't love me back. but i'm not falling. i just kind of... am. .
Embertail's jaw dropped and he stared at twisterstep. How could it be? It was impossible! By the look on Twisterstep's face, he wasn't joking. "What are you talking about? Why did Firestar just leave us here to suffer without knowing why?" he cried. Embertail fell to his haunches. This couldn't be right. Tears formed in the tom's eyes. He looked at his sister, but tuned out her yelling. He didn't care if everyone saw or heard them, but he wanted the world to know how he felt. He threw his head to the sky and yowled at the top of his lungs, then turned and went storming through the camp, hissing and slashing. Why hadn't anyone told him? It was just a stupid thing Firestar had told them, and they should have known that it was wrong. He looked back at Skyfeather, urging her to come with him to Jaystar's den, then last of all, Fireheart.

Skyfeather was frozen in place. Her head slumped low on her shoulders. Her whole body trembled as her tear filled eyes glazed over while she stared at the ground. She wanted to run, she wanted to just get out of here. It wasnt true, it couldnt be. Twisterstep was her papa. He had raised her and loved her. There was not way this was true! She was not the daughter of a murderer. She refused to believe it! She turned and bolted from Twisterstep to the side of the one cat that shared her pain. Only her brother knew what she was going through. She followed him toward Jaystar's den. As they walked there she pushed her nose in to his fur, searching for comfort in his familiar scent. "Its not true... Jaystar wouldnt let them do this to us."
