Embertail nodded in understanding. "We have to leave, maybe strike out on our own for a while before we find a permanent home," he sighed. He didn't want to do this, leave the place he had held so dear in his heart. This couldn't be happening to him. He turned to Riverheart and smiled, even though tears still came from his eyes. He stared into the eyes of the one that had accepted them from the beginning, even though he knew about all of this. "Thank you Riverheart. You were a true friend," he breathed, then turned back to Skyfeather, hurt in his blue eyes. There was nothing that could possibly be this hard.

"No, no, no!" Riverheart shook his head, almost bouncing as his paws hit the forest floor on his last exclamation. "You can't leave us! You can't leave me." His eyes shone, a deep ocean of hurt that his friends might even think of leaving him. "Your mother is not looking for you, she never cared for you. She's like all the other cats who worked for Lionblaze. You two are the cats who are different from him." He gazed at Skyfeather, willing her to understand. "What if I was Hawkfrost's son? Related to Tigerstar? Cats would glare at me, would you still be my friend? Would you let me leave when I learned that I was related to him? I mean, maybe I am. Who knows? This pelt of mine could have come from any cat." Riverheart's eyes shone as the light caught the small glade, dappling the ground with the shadows of leaves. "What have you waiting out there? Being together, lost, alone. I'm here for you two. You are my family, more than anyone else."

"Everyone dies eventually. Once you are born, you begin to die."
"That was not comforting either!"
"It is the way of the Creed. Usually our deaths are violent but quick."
Skyfeather took what her friend had to say to heart. She bowed her head in silent defeat. "We have nothing out there..." she shook her head tenderly. A thought crossed her mind, "If you were Hawkfrost's son then you would be our cousin." The she cat tilted her head to the side with a smile crossing her tear streaked face. "Brambleclaw was Tigerstar's son, Hawkfrost's brother... That would make us kin, though it would be very distant." Skyfeather liked the idea of having other kin in the clan now. Twisterstep had served as her father for years but never had she met his father or mother. She had no one she was related to now other than Embertail. The blue gray she cat nodded slowly and turned to her brother, "Lets not go... At least we know now why they hate us. Its a stupid reason and we shall show them that we arent our father. Papa is our really father, even if we arent related to him. We shall show the world what we can do." The life that had disappeared from her eyes at the new of her birth rekindled again, sparking back to life like a determined fire.
"That's it," Riverheart meowed, licking her head. "They'll come to their senses eventually. It happened to Firestar, it happened to Brambleclaw, and even Tawnypelt. But she left, and became part of ShadowClan. Firestar and Brambleclaw hung in there, and now look, they've got the top positions in the clan!" He smiled softly. "Besides, until then, you have me!" A shy grin went hand in hand with that statement, and if his fur was any other color, a reddening of his cheeks would have shown up. Luckily, though, he was dark-furred enough that nothing looked too different. "Never give in, Never give up." Riverheart nodded, as if he were remembering something. "Those are the only words I was told by my parents, both of them."

Embertail smiled at Riverheart. He looked back at Skyfeather. "You're right. We're going to have to fight and hunt, go on every patrol, every hunting party we can, until they accept us." He looked back at Riverheart. "Thank you. You're right too. We can't give up, not when we've gone this far," he sighed. They had to go back to camp. Twisterstep was truly their father, and it didn't matter relations. He took a step for camp and looked back at his companions.

Skyfeather tilted her head to the side and gave Riverheart a smile that one would give to a sweet younger brother. She was unaware of the blush that ran across his face since his fur was a dark shade. "Thank you Riverheart. If you really are Hawkfrost's son, then it would be nice to have another member of our kin in our clan," she winked at the younger tom. "Come on then, lets get back to camp. We owe you to much Riverheart to give up now." She trotted toward her brother with her optimistic grin once again shinning brightly on her face.
Riverheart sighed with relief. They weren't leaving, and Skyfeather hadn't noticed his fiace heating up, or if she did, she ignored it. "Yikes. I better get back now. My apprentice is going to be peeved." He winced, with an almost smile on his face. "Sorry about that Skyfeather, I have to go. Save me some prey for when I get back!" He meowed, before bounding off.

Skyfeather laughed aloud when he bounded off with a worried expression. He looked like he was going to be in trouble with his mentor, not that he was the mentor this time around. The she cat flicked her tail side to side with a good heart and turned, "Come on then Embertail, lets go." The two siblings headed through the thick trees of the Thunderclan back to its camp. Both traveled in silence, knowing what they would have to face when they got back. They entered the camp with heads held high and brave challenging looks in their eyes. They had been raised to be loyal Thunderclan cats. That was who they were. They werent the son and daughter of a murderer. They were the son and daughter of Twisterstep, the war hero who slayed the murderer. Skyfeather's chest puffed out with pride at that thought. Twisterstep's worried eyes had quickly turned to the entrance. His brows were furrowed as he raced to them. His small frame once again betrayed the fact that they werent his kits but Skyfeather didnt care. Twisterstep came to a hesitant halt before them. His ears lay back against his head in shame as he looked to them for forgivness. Skyfeather turned to her brother and lifted a brow before turning back. A sly grin touched her lips and she botled forward and tackled Twisterstep to the ground, covering his ears and face in loving licks. Her tail waggled back and forth like it had when she was a kit. Twisterstep's face was bewildered but a tender loving smile touched his mouth and his eyes well with tears. They both purred deeply as Twisterstep realized that these two, having no blood relation, were really his children.
