Embertail hung his head and watched Birdsong leave. Skyfeather was right though. There will be more chances and lots more apprentices. But then again he knew that he was older than Kestreleye or Riverheart. He had more experience than them, but they were chosen. He glared up at Jaystar, then to Twisterstep. This couldn't be happening! Did Jaystar not trust them? Or was he blind on the inside too?! Embertail snarled to himself and stalked away to the entrance. He needed some time to himself to gather his thoughts and let his feelings out.

Riverheart's jaw had dropped slightly, as his own name was called. 'M-me?' he had thought, stuttering on the inside too. He had been confident earlier in his jibes because he knew that Skyfeather would have gotten an apprentice, she deserved one. But him? He wanted to apologize to Skyfeather on Jaystar's behalf, but upon seeing her reaction to Kestreleye, just stuck his nose in her fur, a small apology and padded off to join Boulderpaw.
"Hi there!" he meowed, smiling for his new apprentice.
"Hi Riverheart!" the young apprentice meowed. Then a thought struck the young gray tom. "Are you from RiverClan?"
Riverheart chuckled. "Do I stink of fish?" he asked.

Willowtails dipped in respect also pain. She never knew how painful it was. But it was true there would be other chances to get apprentices. She was still a young warrior she would only be moving to elders den if she got to hurt and the medicine cat could not fix her injury. But still she kept on thinking Skyfeather did derserve the apprentice and she wanted it so bad. Willowtail began to think of reasons but could not even think of one. The main thing is Skyfeather should of got that apprentice.

Embertail headed for the lake. He hated Jaystar. He didn't know that he would end up hating him, but he raged at him. "What's wrong with him?" he asked to himself. What's wrong with everyone? Why do they stare at he and Skyfeather? Why did they hate them? Then, something struck him. It wasn't what was wrong with his clanmates. They stared at them because of one thing. What was wrong with them? What did they ever do? He raced toward the lake, growling with rage. Why hadn't he seen it before? There was something wrong with him and his sister, but he had been to nieve to think of it before. He had to find out what was wrong with him.

Willowtail watched Embertail leave she could tell he hated Jaystar. Well, so did she not because he did not choose her for the mentor but because he did not choose Skyfeather. Willowtail knew that Skyfeather deserved the apprenitce! Why didn't Jaystar see it! Willowtail knew he was wise being blind and stuff but this is one of the worst mistakes he's ever made! Willowtail thought Skyfeather deverves that apprentice more than anything maybe even more than anyone.

Embertail knew that he had to get back to camp and tell Skyfeather. He turned tail mid-stride and took off toward the camp. This was too much. He dashed toward the tunnel and squeezed through. When he was inside he looked frantically for his sister. He saw her and raced toward her. "I have to talk to you, Shyfeather," he said. He saw Jaystar and sneered, thinking of how mad he was at the leader. Couldn't he see? Well, no, but couldn't he understand?

Skyfeather jumped in surprise as her brother raced back in to camp with such purpose in his strides. "W-what is it?" Her deep blue eyes opened wide with worry. What could have happened just now that caused her dear brother to act this way. She wrapped her lithe tail around his shoulders and pulled him to the abandoned part of camp. The place that had once been the digging site of the prisoners in Thunderclan. The wall was now stable and full of green grasses. The grasses met with the gray stones of the rest of the original walls. When they were alone she turned to him with her ever gentle smile, "What is it Embertail?"

Birdsong headed for the fresh-kill pile, eating in the back of her mind. Oh, yeah, she ate a few moments before the ceremony, but eating refreshed her. It made her able to think. She was just about to pick out a shrew when she head Jaystar's voice from behind.

"Birdsong, I'd like you to lead a hunting patrol," he said. "I know Embertail and Skyfeather-" his voice darkened when he said their name, "just caught some, but the pile is going down now and we need more prey; we have a fairly large clan." He looked around. "Take a few warriors with you, i'd say about 3." He left, heading back to the den.

Birdsong stared at Jaystar. CURSE YOU! she wanted to scream. Why do you hate Embertail and Skyfeather so much? She wanted to run after her leader and demand the answers out of him, but she kept her pose. Instead, Birdsong headed towards the crowd of warriors.

"Squirrelflight, Ghostfur, Bumblestorm?" she asked. "Hunting patrol?" Bumblestorm jumped up instantly but Ghostfur and Squirrelflight finished the remains of the starling they were sharing. At last, the got up. "Sure," Ghostfur said. Squirrelflight flicked her tail, motioning she agreed. They walked into the forest, Birdsong in the lead. At last, they stopped in a grassy part of their territory. "How about we break up to catch more prey?" she suggested. The cats murmured their agreements. Truthfully, Birdsong just wanted to be alone.

Embertail went with his sister to the corner of the camp. He looked over his shoulder to make sure nobody was listening. Then he turned back. "You know how those cats always stare at us? And we think, "what's wrong with them?" But it's not them that are doing something wrong. They stare because there's something wrong with us!" he whispered. It was true, and they had to find out what it was. "The thing is, what IS wrong with us?" Embertail thought for a moment, trying to find out what was the big deal. Was it some sort of hunting strategy? Were they not bringing enough food for the clan? Were they being greedy with prey?
