Its the year 2366, and technology has advanced. The government has managed to suppress most of the Gifted population, but the remaining Gifted are proving to be the best of the bunch and are harder to kill than c.ckroaches. However, through their perseverance and advanced technology, the government has managed to capture three young Gifted.
With test subjects to practice their new "Nullification Wards" on, they rear the children with their Gifts suppressed until they're old enough to live on their own in a cabin in the middle of a heavily wooded area. Around this wide area the government has placed four "sentinels"--within their range, all Gifts are nullified, and as such the three children grow up, completely unaware of their Gifts. Their Gifts are suppressed, and beyond the normal speaking and reading skills they are completely uneducated in the sense of modern society, instead being surprisingly adept at hand to hand fighting, hunting, tracking--in short, most of the skills and instincts lost to humanity when technology became king. The years passed and the babies are now fifteen years of age.
However, the Gifted Resistance never forgets, never forgives; as soon as a spy reveals to them the location of the youths, the Resistance, desperate for reinforcements, send three of their own to retrieve the rumored youths. They aren't the best, but they're competent enough to be trusted with such a task. Unfortunately, they are unaware of the Nullification sentinels and stumble unwittingly into the trap. Somehow, they stumble upon the three teens on a foraging expedition, and at that exact moments a freak lightning strike knocks out one of the Nullification sentinels, leaving the six Gifted outside of the field.
For the first time in the three's lives since birth their Gifts arent being suppressed, and as a result the Gifts go haywire for a few seconds. Unfortunately for them, those few seconds are enough to activate the government's alarm. The six only have a minute to get to safety before the Hunters--a new whole generation of agents--arrive at their location.
Hunters, as a testament to the governments success in furthering their aims to completely eliminate Gifted, are basically super-humans. Their senses are highly advanced, and although completely strengthening all the Hunters physical abilities would make them into robots controlled directly through programming (something that would result in a decrease in efficiency, which is not at all desired or even allowed), the Hunters are given a choice as to which attribute they want enhanced. As bonus, the Hunters are also infused with a chemical agent that renders Gifts used directly on them useless.
rules;
follow these, please.
- don't be an idiot. self explanatory. c:
- pp and gm are no-no's--please refrain from committing these crimes.
- be reasonable. ~ expanding on this: your character is not chuck norris and therefore does not have unlimited stamina and the ability to avoid taking any damage for the entirety of anything. there is no cheat code for unlimited hp and mp and stamina in this.
- interaction is key. don't drag your character off for no reason and then angst about how no one loves them unless you have a predetermined relationship and someone is guaranteed to come after your angsty little kid. even then, make sure the two of you have reason enough to get back to the main group. :'c
- stick to the plot and setting. this isn't "lovers' tropical escape". n__n;
- if you don't make a constructive post that benefits the plot / offers interaction within five days of your last constructive post i'll remove you from the list and your position(s) will be opened up. yes, offers interaction and is constructive. it means sulking in a corner for five days will get you kicked out.

appearance. blonde haired and blue eyed, joshua would have been considered handsome had he been in normal society. he wears his hair somewhat long since he thinks it's too risky to crop his hair short with the rough blades they have and ties it back with a worn ribbon he found. he is still slender and only slightly muscled from a lifetime of harsh work, and his skin is somewhat pale since the sunlight rarely reaches him due to the fact that he's in the forest. wears worn and patched t-shirts and shorts found in their cabin.
personality. soft spoken and shy, joshua rarely speaks even when he's with his family and all but clams up when faced with strangers.
position. a forest gifted.
gift / enhancement. joshua would have been known as a weather mage in medieval times. the best he can do as of now is sense the changes in weather and predict future weather patterns.
other. nothing as of now.
name. cecilia arks
age. twenty-nine
gender. female
appearance. cecilia is pretty, and it's clear that at one point in her life she was even beautiful, but a harsh life time on the run from the government and its ever lengthening shadow has taken its toll. her mid-back length brown hair has lost the luster it once had, as has her emerald green eyes, and her once porcelain-smooth skin has been roughened and tanned by years in the harsh elements. her lithe figure has been toned by years of practice in evasion and defense techniques.
personality. best described as emotionless and cold-hearted by strangers, cecilia has tight control over her emotions and keeps them close at hand, always ready with a level-headed plan to achieve the best results. she relaxes only when she's sure she's absolutely certain she's alone with her beloved plants. sometimes her intelligence has made her indifferent to those she considers below her, and she holds disdain for those she believes are hindrances, but they never know since she favors them with the same polite smile and kind, meaningless words as everyone else.
position. a resistance gifted.
gift / enhancement. a green mage, cecilia is talented with all things related with plants. a highly accomplished healer and self-proclaimed apothecary, cecilia, when she's not doing recon through plants, is busy concocting different potions.
other. she's barely passable through physical combat, mostly preferring to use her cunning to trap opponents before finishing them off with poisons.
she's known to the government as the hedge-witch and someone their less-capable members should look out for.
name. lulubell frost
age. nineteen
gender. female.
appearance. very pale, she has platinum blonde hair she crops short to just at the nape of her neck. her eyes are a washed out blue-grey; they almost look silver in the right light. despite constant wear and tear, her skin gives the impression of porcelain, although at the first touch it becomes clear that it's not the case. she's almost always clothed in dark garb as if to maximize the contrast between her general pale appearance and the dark material.
personality. initially very carefree and obnoxious, when lulu becomes serious she is very calculating and loses all of her charm. she is easily annoyed and is very vocal in her opinions and feelings.
position. a hunter.
gift / enhancement. super-human senses. (in terms of eye sight, hearing, ect.)
other. lulu is highly adept at fighting, but she lacks social skills, as well as subtlety, and is very brash. the higher ups usually reserve her for operations that require brute force.
while she is extremely able in terms of fire arms and other such modern weapons, she prefers the ancient stealth methods. she uses a highly modernized bow and always carries daggers on hand, as well as firearms although she rarely uses them--her poisoned arrows usually do the trick.

Wears worn, baggy hunter's/fighter's pants, patched in a few places, and an old t-shirt, which somehow ended up being short-sleeved after misadventures like getting caught on thorns. Old, comfortable hunting boots are his favorite to wear. Always has a pair of knives stashed in his boots. personality. Loves his "family" and is very warm around them. However, around strangers, he's quite protective of his 'siblings', seeing as he's the oldest. Shiny things which he has not seen fascinate him. As does all technology. position. forest child gift / can communicate with the avian race, and can do a little levitation jig. No real flying, but he can hover off the ground at a max of five feet when he's developed his skill, and he can slow falls or increase a jump. other. Shiny things are his weakness. 'Nuff said.

One of the more compassionate members of the Resistance, usually sent for recruiting, however, as every other rebel, has a hidden steel side. position. Resistance gift / enhancement. Supreme agility and speed. other. Nrup.

[ ooc; alsooo. jaggedpine, you still need to add your gift u__u.
this sets up the positions for the forest gifted, the resistance gifted, as well as the hunters, who will be able to jump into the action, soon.
a reminder to the resistance gifted: they have been wandering around for the past day or so without use of their powers so chances are they aren't in pristine condition, both mentally and physically. they ~probably~ are rather distraught at the moment, especially given that between their gifts and technology, they aren't used to fending for themselves. ]
They had been out looking for that abandoned well to stock up on water while it was still raining when suddenly an unfamiliar noise caught them off guard. Dropping their handwoven baskets, they had all taken refuge behind the nearest trees as they peered, wide eyed, waiting for the appearance of the strange creatures. It couldnt have been animals; they were too wise and too well versed in stealth to have made that much noise and the only other option were humans. Of course, that was as unlikely as an animal making that much noisethey hadnt seen another human being for as long as they could remember, and therefore it must be some strange, unheard of creature, right?
In all his years of living without any interaction other than his two siblings--although not related through blood, they might as well have; twelve, thirteen years of constant companionship would do that to you--Joshua was completely stunned at the arrival of the three strangers. They were humans, undoubtedly, but there was something off about them. The blonde shrank further behind his tree, obviously unwilling to step out and confront the strangers. Three sets of footsteps paused, confused at the sudden disappearance of the three people they knew had been there moments before.
Joshua was just hoping someone would step up and confront them when a thunderous explosion ripped through the air and he, even behind his tree, stumbled backwards, out from the protection of the wood.
"What was that?" he asked in a frightened voice, eyes wide. His concern had shifted from the strangers to that strange concussion that had knocked him from his feet, and suddenly a pair of makeshift blades were in his hands. Wild-eyed and very much like a cornered animal, he settled back into a crouch, ready to attack anything that got too close.
----
Twelve years having passed without incident, the almost-slumbering Hunter was jerked roughly out of her half-dream state as the alarm detected the destruction of a sentinel within the Forest of Nullification. Almost at the same time, the alarm set to detect Gifts went off, and her eyes snapped open. One slender hand darted out for the heavy backpack of weapons and equipment while the other pale appendage went for belt with the various poisons hanging from it. It was the work of a few seconds to get off her behind and follow the rest of her squad into the Forest.
It was the beginning of what proved to be a tedious night. After taking a peek at the scene of the destruction and doubling back, Lulubell was in the process of dipping several darts into a small vial of poison, holding them carefully by the black tufts that she could barely see, even with her enhanced vision. She had prepared the arrows in a similar manner, and they current lay sheltered from the rain under a broad leaf she had unceremoniously torn from a nearby fern. Although she had brought a gun (several, in fact, along with extra magazines), she found that old fashioned bows and blow darts (although they had been reinforced and constructed out of metal to produce the best power and accuracy) were ideal for the initial blow--they were quiet, much quieter even than the silenced weapons and if she was lucky, the target would die unnoticed and she could continue on her merry way to finish off the rest of the group.
Lulubell finished her preparations quickly, and after packing away her poisoned items carefully, she started for the clearing. The sooner she got the show on the road the sooner she could finish, and that meant lessening the time until she could go back and eat some ice cream.
