"I heard the lady the first time," Joshua snapped quietly, his anger still not enough for him to raise his voice at a stranger--an incompetent stranger, sure, but a stranger all the same. He, for one, was not particularly keen on following these said incompetent strangers to a camp he, again, was not sure existed. Still, it was a better option than leading them to their home, and if push came to shove, these people had proven their inability to navigate the forest worth anything--they could easily get away if they turned out to be phonies....

Still, it wasn't his call to make. Leaning back, he eyed the blade that the Invisible Creeper had offered Aetius. His brother was right--it looked very easy to break. You only had to stick it the wrong way in a joint and then it was farewell.... "What do you say, brother?" he asked congenially, arms crossed as he stood in the heavy rain, not bothered at all that he was completely soaked through by now.

"I was waiting for your call," Joshua smiled, and was already disappearing amongst the trees when the woman who had only recently scurried down the tree called out, asking for them to wait.

---

Cecilia wasn't so sure about handing the kids a blade, but since they had proven themselves quite proficient... she shrugged and let it slide. Judging from the blonde's snappy reaction to Mister Tress's prompt that pressuring them was not a good idea, she merely mirrored the blonde's action, crossing her own arms over her chest and settling back, keen green eyes on the two.

Her demeanor had changed immediately when their male companion started provoking the children. Sending him a chilling glare that warned him to keep his mouth shut--their mission was to retrieve the children and that was exactly what they were going to do, never mind their cheekiness--she called out in an even tone as they started to leave. "A moment, please!" Mind working furiously to order her words, she continued, "Forgive my companion's rudeness." Her eyes were clearly telling him to go with the flow. Missions were to be completed, and emotions were not to get in the way. "We do have some... shinier objects back at camp." Reaching into the neck of her shirt, she pulled out a simple metal band studded with a small gem that had been hanging around her neck on a chain. "The jewel is merely glass and the metal nothing special, but it's rather shiny in the right light"--in fact, even in the nearly non-existent light, it sparkled enticingly--"and if you'd still be interested in accompanying us, I'd like to give this to you as a token of our good will." Tugging on it sharply, the chain came loose and she tossed the ring at the elder forest Gifted. "Truth be told, we would greatly appreciate your help--we're not sure we can get back in these conditions, and I'm sure you're the experts to ask help from in these circumstances."

Waiting for a reply, Cecilia held her breath as she waited for a reply. Giving the ring to the boy was something of a gamble--it was a solar-powered tracer, and in the lack of sunlight in the forest, it had run out of juice in the time they had gotten lost, effectively making it useless. But if the boy reacted as she hoped he would, with lots of time spent admiring the ring in the sunlight, it would recharge it, allowing them to trace the children if they decided to ditch. However, if they destroyed the ring on a suspicion or lost it, her team would lose their only connection to headquarters as well as have failed their mission to retrieve the children.

Aetius caught the thing easily, eyes mesmerized. "I've never seen something that was black and blue and shiny. The only shiny things I've seen where silver..." he trailed off, glaring suspiciously at the girl - albeit a few minutes later. "This isn't some kind of trick, is it? Some kind of...magnet...ical force that'll draw you to us? It's not normal for something to be shiny and not silver..." Although it was very pretty, he had to agree. Perhaps this lady actually had half of a brain, unlike the man, and though the woman could be considered intelligent, he didn't understand how she kept any irritation under control. It appeared that he was not ill-disposed toward her, anyway.

---

Sarah raised an eyebrow, content to let her fellow comrade take over these kids. She had unconsciously done the first thing - get poisoned - but hey, progress was progress...right?

Cecilia smiled. "There are things different about the outside world that you could not imagine within the confines of your forest." She indicated around them in a wide, sweeping gesture. "While your forest provides all the security and happiness you could ever want, the element of risk every breath brings in the outside world is part of the reason everyone strives to be better--no one knows what will happen, and as such we do our best to enjoy as much of it as possible, to further ourselves. There are many things in the outside world you do not know if in here." Cecilia was surprisingly eloquent in her speech--she was even mildly impressed at herself. Arguments of the verbal kind had never been her forte, instead much rather threatening to completely and utterly destroy their life if they didn't help them.

"And as you may or may not know, not only metal things are shiny; as long as a surface is reflective and multi-faceted, it will result in your desired shininess."

----

Joshua found himself being swayed in her talk of the outside world more than the others' hurried and forceful insisting had, but it wasn't enough; he caught himself as she slowed down before the entire web had been cast and he held fast, instead hanging back a moment longer, waiting for his brother's reply; with their sister's mysterious disappearance, they needed a hundred percent approval between the two in order to act without their sister. Having been together all their lives, it was already unsettling to have been apart for such a long time--the full effects were just now settling in as the excitement of having visitors was wearing off.

Javin nodded at Cecilia's words. She was right. Maybe they could persuade the kids after all. But it definitely wasn't going to be because of him. "We understand your fears, but I swear, I will lay down my life, no matter how weak you think it is, to make sure nothing happens to you," he promised. He stared at the knife. "The time has come to forget about our differences and become one. Do you accept a new challenge?" Javin expected to hear sneers and te kids yelling at him after that.

due to a lack of further possibilities thanks to our lack of hunters, we're doing a one year time skip.
after a year, the forest gifted have, after testing, figured out what their gifts are and have slight control over them. they attempted one escape a week after their arrival upon being told that they--horror of all horrors--had to attend something called school and needed to learn to read and write a language called english, along with other subjects such as math and science.
despite their late start, their accelerated learning program and general ability to adapt to things quickly has them roughly at about middle-school level--impressive for a year's adaption. their survival instincts are still top-rate despite a year of living in comfort (mostly due to the fact that they are uncomfortable around technology and do their best to limit their use of it), and lessons involving firearms and hidden weapons have been extended to the gifted.

on the hunter front, it turned out that lulu's other team members had disappeared and are missing to this day [because of the fact that we never had hunters to begin with, we're going with the fact that they disappeared mysteriously. lulu has been assigned to another squadron, should anyone choose to play a hunter.]. lulu's squadron has been assigned the task of retrieving the gifted; there is still a chance that they will be able to turn them to the government's favor, and if they refuse, the hunters are encouraged to use lethal force.

basically, that leaves the forest gifted within the rebellion headquarters; due to cecilia's compatibility with aetius's and joshua's gifts (all are nature related) as well as their relative trust in her (it was she who managed to convince them to go with her team to the headquarters), she has been assigned the task of tutoring them in their basic gifts. they are all in a special room designed for beginners to practice their gifts.

hunters will be re-introduced as soon as we get a companion for lulubell.

At the moment Joshua was best described as frustrated. He could grasp the concepts school had to offer relatively quickly, even if it did make his head hurt ferociously afterwards, and the weapons training he mastered easily. But it was this Gift that he could not bend to his will.

Reading the weather came easily to him, and he could predict the weather minute for minute for close to an entire week in advance within a mile radius, but it was calling it to his will that it would not do for him. Even Cecilia showed signs of fatigue as she tried to teach Joshua the correct way to call the weather. It would be, she had told him countless times over the past year, an unbelievably powerful skill should he master it. In the beginning it had been incentive enough for him to spend every un-preoccupied waking moment in the practice room, spilling buckets of water onto the floor and struggling to make clouds out of it. When the best he could manage was a small fog that left him utterly exhausted, Cecilia suggested they go out and manipulate some existing weather.

It turned out to be as big as a failure as his trying to create it. The rain steadfastly refused to fall harder at his beckoning, and it turned a deaf ear to his pleads and demands to stop. Even the gentle-mannered, soft-hearted winds were not sensitive to his wishes, and the only most air-activity he could manage was sending a small one scooting around a room after he had made it himself.

It was enough to drive anyone mad. Both he and his teacher were in a sullen mood as they sat in the practice room, Cecilia watching as he unsuccessfully tried to coax his gentle breeze into something stronger. It drifted across the room at its own pace even as the blonde glared daggers into it, and in exasperation Cecilia left him to check on his brother's progress.

Aetius was standing at the open window to his room, eyes closed, arms upraised, silently calling. A few songbirds flew by and landed on his arms, but left as soon as they spotted the hawk circling above. Once his arms were free of little birds, the hawk descended, landing on his right arm. Opening his eyes and dropping his left hand, he smiled at the hawk. "Hi there," he murmured. The hawk tilted its head sideways and let out a soft click. "May I pet you?" Aetius asked. The hawk did nothing, which he took to mean yes. Slowly, he raised his left hand and pet the hawk under its beak. It's eyes slitted in pleasure and Aetius continued to pet it.
Hearing the door open behind him. Aetius turned slightly, careful not to disturb the hawk. Realizing it was Cecilia, he grinned and tilted his head toward the bird. "Look, I got this big guy to come down and say hello!"
