Chapter 1: Before the accident

Before the Accident: Rin's Side of the Story

Rin stood subtle in an abandoned warehouse. It was due to rain within maybe an hour or less. Glancing up to the ceiling, she recalled what had happened earlier. Her snow white hair was short, with long bangs in the front. Though it obscured her vision, she made no attempt to move it away. "I wonderwhy she wandered in here." Rin mumbled. Her amber gaze flickered to a black sleek ebony case under some metal railings on the second floor of the building. A whole shaft revealed its position. Below it, and around most of the warehouse, were metal and wooden crates. Earlier, they had been in perfect shape. butever since two hours ago they had been ripped, busted, and thrown. Not by her doing of course Now she vividly recalled the moment.

It was late fall, October 17th, 2011. A rather small, 16 looking girl, with snow white hair and amber eyes was walking down a black street past a few buildings into an empty lot, over a rather rusty bridge over a gigantic sewage pipe, and into another street. No other cars were about and no other people- that she knew of. She'd walked a ways to an abandoned grocery store, still with good food, and taken what she could. Her cloths consisted of a skin tight vest that reached only below her breasts, jean like shorts; the shoes were black iron toed boots, Harley Davidson edition; and black and red striped socks that went up and above her kneecap. She walked down the road, her van 20 feet away, parked in the warehouse garage.

The warehouse was her temporary station for a Biomedical engineering shop. Rin specialized in making healing technology- lazars that could fix your eyes surgically, or a robot that would conduct surgery to implant, remove, or replace an organ. Maybe blood transfusions too. Her brother, Artemis, was grinning. He stood in the doorway of the shop and wolf whistled. "Hey girl, mighty fine stuff in your hands." He joked. She was carrying a bag- one with a collection of wires and chips, another with food such as bread loafs and a watermelon. She gave a taunted growl. "Hey, your cantaloupes haven't even grown girl." She retorted mockingly. He stood there and rolled his eyes. "That's because guys don't grow itty-tittles." He countered. She wanted to say more but of course, that would lead to a little morecolorful language.

Finally reaching the warehouse, she stopped and dropped the bags next to the van on a large busty wooden crate. Artemis viewed the food and pulled out a box- it had four cylinders of Ritz Crackers. "YEESSSSSSSSSSS!" he exclaimed. He gave her a Wiley grin. He was about 23 years of age. Rin was only what, 17? Almost old enough to drive- old enough to get a license. She glowered at him. "SO when do I get to learn to use that thing?" she asked, pointing to the black casing on the hood of the white van. Inside was a complete sniper set, bullets to load, sniper's scope, and a laser pointer. "When you're 18." He replied bending down a little too ruffle her hair. "Hey, you said we'd practice today" she mumbled. He pretended to think it over. "Ah yes I did!" He joked. Artemis grinned. "Okay, but in an hour. I'll be back after a bit- need to pick something up." He said.

"Where are you going?" Rin asked as she watched her older brother, with his sleek black hair and dark blue sunglasses unlock the van and climb into the driver's seat. "I got a call from Stella; she says she needs some money." He explained. "Money? What for?" Rin inquired. "Actually she wouldn't say" He explained. "I'll be back in maybe 45 minutes or more." He winked at her. "Or, before you can say really slowly." She giggled. "Okaybe careful!" She replied. She watched him close the door gently and start the engine. The vane roared into life, backing down the driveway ((the empty lot)) and then heading south, towards to bridge. It crossed and then vanished into the fog of late day. "Got to love just randomly running off" Rin mumbled.

All of these memories....were they meaningless? Rin looked up to the dark ceiling for help. "What can I do....When this all started I was so alone...and those strange papers in my hand when I arrived...all marked with dates." She muttered. "And..." she grimaced. "Alexi's name was on one of them, for a particular date...just like my brother's..." her brain flashed. It was starting to come back now.

She has awakened before a gate she has no memory of opening. She has no name, and no memory of how she came to be here, at the first station of a fateful quest she does not understand but knows she must continue. However....there is a twist. She holds within her hands strange papers. each with names, dates, and the same year on them. One is....

Her head throbbed. Artemis had been the first- her brother. He'd told her that she had awakened with amnesia. it was such a sad thing...because he had taken her in. She had been very small at that time. A little girl at the age of 7... How saddening... But she found out her brother was a lie too. His name had faded between another on the paper as they had spent a few years together. It had faded into another name.... "Kyte".
