okay okay so i wanted to do a murder mystery role play with a mafia twist to it. i don't think knowledge of the actual party game is required, but if you don't know what it is and you're curious, you should go google it. (,:
essentially everyone makes 2 - 4 characters. 'the more the merrier' is encouraged because people are going to die--that's the nature of the game. and more characters means the game lasts longer, which is good?
once a suitable number of people have joined, i'm going to roll lots and assign murderers. depending on the total pool of characters, i'll try to choose a suitable number of murderers. before the role play starts you will, of course, be notified of the total number of murderers. murderers can choose to work as a team if they figure out who the other murderer
this takes care of the pre-rp work. sounds all fine and dandy in theory, but how well does it translate into execution? well, this will essentially be like a normal role play except people will be dying in between, and you'll actually think a bit! (hopefully. unless i'm awful at this haha._
as a the role player of a murderer, please write your role plays as if your character weren't a murderer. keep everything normal; they are freaking out just as much as the next guy, or they're wondering if they'll be the next, ect. this is supposed to challenge both the other role players as well as the other characters. some characters also have a nasty habit of becoming the next oracle of delphi with uncanny gut feelings and premonitions and the like, and also it's hard to write objectively if we already know who the killer is, and we want to prevent that.
every couple pages i will pm a murderer and ask them which CHARACTER (not role player) they'd like to assassinate, and in what method. the method is actually important and i'll have to ask you to do it--it will not only allow for people to associate particular patterns with a single killer, it'll also allow other killers to confuse the players by copycatting, ect. i don't require extreme detail (gore) because that's kind of disturbing. just a simple "strangled", or "knifed in the back" will suffice. or perhaps you want to leave a calling card, like a flower or something. i will write up the post to prevent any giveaways through writing style, ect, and throughout the post i will also drop hints as to the murderer's identity. if the killer would like to leave a red herring, PLEASE SPECIFY! after every murder is discovered, the characters will be allowed to speculate about who they believe the murderer is. after every murder the group is allowed to lynch someone they believe to be a murderer, or they can sit around and wait. there will be a vote taken to decide what action to take, and majority vote wins. if it's a tie, then nothing happens by default. depending on the number of players, i will announce whether or not they killed a murderer, or if they lynched an innocent. (if there are less killers / players, i will up the difficulty and not confirm. although if there's only one obviously i will tell you haha.)
the murderers will becycledsystematically, which means if there are murderers a, b, and c, it will always go a, b, then c. it also means that it's quite possible to put the clues together. so it's up to you to decide exactly how many killers there are, and which clues fit which murderers.
since this is about as much as a game as a role play, there are win conditions. for the murderers, it is killing all other murderers and achieving a 1 : 1 ratio with the remaining civilians. if everyone remaining is a lone murderer then gg murderers...? i don't actually know. but if it's a party* of allied murderers vs a lone murderer, then the party wins. and if it's 2 parties, the larger party wins. there hopefully won't be a tie since i won't assign an even number of murderers, unless you guys kill yourself even ):
for the civilians the win condition is to lynch all the murderers.
as for my role, since i'm planning on playing GM to this, i don't really believe i'm in a position to play characters because then my judgment will hardly be impartial, now will it? but i might if it turns out we have a disappointing turn out and i'll just randomize my character's decisions. ),:
*oh and since i haven't touched on partying up: if you, as the player of a murderer (or perhaps you're not a murderer, but feel that you know one and would like to have security for your favorite non-murderer character), feel that you are fairly confident of another murderer's identity and would like to party up with that character, you are free to pm the other player (mentioning specifics is also up to you). your supposed murderer is also NOT obligated to notify you if they are indeed not a murderer, so it's up to you to take the risk. if you both agree to party up, please both of you pm me to notify me of the action. there is no law that states partied murderers can't kill one another later, either, so there's that as well. (if both are indeed murderers). however, as partied murderers, you are both allowed only ONE kill, so decide wisely.
the tactics that this opens up is pretty much boundless, so exactly what you choose to do with this is quite your choice!
this is really rough and if anything is unclear or you feel a certain issue should be addressed please feel free to pm me about it (if i haven't opened it to posting yet) or just post if it has been opened (especially about the partying thing since i realize i'm not super clear about that u___u)

the setting. and an attempt to pretend everyone has a reason to be stuck in this horror movie haha (,: ...
Set on a lonely castle located the top of a lonely, trecherous peak, it is a very, very long way down from the castle's basement to the valley below. The trip to and fro the castle is not a trip for the weak of heart--the narrow, steep, winding path that is the only entrance to the castle is dangerous on the best of days, and icy and snow with gusting winds and near zero visibility and a veriable death sentence on the worst. Air currents are too unstable and uncertain for any method of air travel. Cars only go half way up; the rest of the trip is best attempted on sure-footed mountain goats and donkeys, or on foot yourself, if you don't trust the animals. Cut off from the outside world, internet and reception for phones and the like are rare.
Within the castle it is easy to forget you're perched on the edge of the world, however. The castle contains its own generator in the basement, and is heated to a comfortable temperature despite the howling gales outside. Its cellars and larders and pantries are well stocked, with enough food to feed double the host for months, and so food is not a concern. There are plenty of rooms to go around, and although there are no comforts of modern technology insofar as telephones and computers and televisions are involved, there are outlets for the casual first worlder's iPods and gaming devices.
Of course, running out of power for your electronic is the last of your worries with murder(s) running around. For their various reasons (and if they don't have one, we can say they were invited by a certain gamesmaster) a group of people have found their way up the trecherous slope and into the the embrace of the luxuriously gilded cage.

the form. because not all characters are expected to last a long time / get a lot of role playing, please be brief. you can develop them more if they turn out to be survivors. please note that inherent abilities like "served in the army", "martial arts expert", ect, will not save your character if they do get targeted by the killer, even if the killer is a baker or something ridiculous like that. just roll with it, it's a game. :P
