She couldn't close her eyes because stars were floating around her mind. She kept dreaming of star-furred cats that she had never seen before. LeafKit had always been blind, yet she knew how to see in her dreams. She had always been drawn to the medicine cat den, where SongPool always stored her herbs, and treated sick cats. SparkKit and EmberKit had always teased her for being blind, and she didn't know what to do. LeakKit was only five and a half moons old, and she didn't want to be a normal apprentice. She wanted to be a medicine cat. Sleep finally came to her. She saw a handsome blue she-cat. LeafKit felt no fear- only happiness- surging in her paws. She bounded up to the mysterious cat. "Hello, dear LeafKit," the cat said.
"Huh? How do you know my name? Who are you," LeafKit questioned.
"My name is BlueStar. I was the leader of ThunderClan before I joined StarClan. I know your name, and many others. Follow me, dear one." BlueStar answered.
LeafKit followed BlueStar to a place she had never seen before. She saw many herbs, all stacked neatly. "Wow! A medicine cat's den!" LeafKit exclaimed.
"You really want to be a medicine cat, don't you?" the starry StarClan cat had to ask.
"Yeah. StarClan seems to want me to be one, too."
BlueStar took this under consideration for a moment. "Well, StarClan DOES want you to be a medicine cat. You'll have a wonderful destiny as a medicine cat. Time for you to go. Farewell, dear one. I'll come back to you in other dreams."
LeafKit woke up, and blinked her unseeing eyes. She bounded to RainStar's den, "RainStar! I had a dream from StarClan! RainStar!"
RainStar stood up, her bold shoulders holding up her large frame. "You say you had a dream from StarClan? What was it," she yawned.
"There was this she-cat, named BlueStar, who said she was the leader of ThunderClan. She said I should be a medicine cat!" LeafKit explained.
"You want to be a medicine cat? Well... it's a good way to put your skills to use in the clan, especially concerning your disability. Very well. I'll talk to SongPool, and when you're six moons old, you might be able to be her apprentice."
LeafKit nodded, and ran off to her mother, DapplePelt. "DapplePelt, DapplePelt! RainStar said I might be able to be a medicine cat!"
DapplePelt's gaze burned her fur- not with aggrevation, but with happiness. Her soft voice started to enter LeafKit's ears. "You want to be a medicine cat, huh? I thought you seemed a bit drawn to SongPool's den. I'm proud of you. You've found yourself a place in the Clan, even though you're blind."

SparkKit yawned, then pounced on his twin brother, EmberKit. EmberKit let out a squeal, then bit SparkKit's paw. "Hey! No biting," SparkKit protested.
"Whatever. Let's go make fun of the blindo bimbo."
SparkKit and EmberKit ran into SongPool's den. "Where's LeafKit," EmberKit asked.
SongPool looked at EmberKit, "She's not in here. Why?"
"No reason."
EmberKit ran out of the medicine cat's den.
"Come on, SparkKit!"
SparkKit ran after EmberKit, and almost ran into ShadowStorm, "Sorry, ShadowStorm!"
He backed out of the way, dipped his head, and ran after EmberKit. They finally found LeafKit, who was talking to SharpFang. "So, then BlueStar said I should be a medicine cat," LeafKit said.
"Who's BlueStar? Another one of those starry cats you seem to see," SparkKit teased.
LeafKit had opened her eyes two weeks after she was born, but she couldn't see anything. She was blind. Why does she keep talking about StarClan cats? She can't even see anything, so why does she seem to see stuff in her dreams, SparkKit questioned himself. He silently padded out of the elders den, when he saw MayPaw coming from the prey pile, without an answer from LeafKit. He really had feelings for MayPaw, and so he trotted over to the prey pile, "Hey, err... MayPaw."
He picked up a vole, and backed up a bit, then dropped it on the ground. "Hi, SparkKit," MayPaw replied.
"What's it like being an apprentice?"
"It's hard, but they say I'm good at it."
"Cool. I guess I'll see you around," he picked up his vole and trotted to the nursery, close enough to the apprentice den that he could hear MayPaw.
He heard MayPaw talking to one of the other apprentices. SparkKit couldn't decide who it was, but he thought it was SpottedPaw or CrowPaw. He finished his vole, and licked his paws. What are these feelings I have for MayPaw? She's an apprentice, and I'm only a kit! He fell into a deep sleep, and didn't think of MayPaw anymore.

It was half a moon since LeafKit had spoken to RainStar about being a medicine cat, making LeafKit six moons old today! Her paws were prickling with excitement, as she sat in the medicine cat's den, being washed by DapplePelt and SongPool. Her words were almost muted by her constant purring, "SongPool...can't...wait...medicine...cat..."
As soon as they were done grooming her, DapplePelt wished LeafKit good luck. She nodded, then trotted out of the medicine cat den, just as RainStar was leaping onto the HighBranch. Her call ran out across the camp, "Let all cats old enough to catch thier own prey gather below the HighBranch for a Clan meeting. We are going to make a few new apprentices today, and also, SongPool has accepted a kit to be her apprentice."
Every cat in camp came out of thier dens, or trotted over from their prey. RainStar continued, "SparkKit and EmberKit are a few days older than six moons. SparkKit, please come here."
SparkKit obeyed, and RainStar kept talking, using the formal words, "From this moment on, until he has earned his warrior name, this apprentice will be known as SparkPaw. ShadePelt? You were mentored by SharpFang, in his seasons as a warrior, and he did a good job teaching you. Do you promise to teach all of your skills and knowlegde to this young apprentice?"
"I do," ShadePelt replied, his eyes gleaming with ambition.
"Good... You are now SparkPaw's mentor. Teach him well," RainStar finished.
"Now, EmberKit, please step foreward."
SparkPaw jumped down from the HighBranch, after touching noses with ShadePelt, and EmberKit jumped up. "From this moment on, until he has earned his warrior name, this apprentice will be known as EmberPaw. DarkHeart? You have gone without an apprentice for several moons, and we all know that you want one. You were mentored by myself, and I hope you pass on everything I taught you to EmberPaw. Do you promise to teach everything in the Warrior Code to this young apprentice?"
DarkHeart jumped onto the HighBranch, nodded, then touched noses with EmberPaw. SparkPaw felt his excitement even from where he was. The whole clan called both of their names, "SparkPaw, EmberPaw, SparkPaw, EmberPaw!!!"
"Before we all get too excited for our new apprentices," RainStar broke in, "we have to welcome SongPool's newly selected apprentice."
SparkPaw was shocked. Who had SongPool chosen? Had she chosen LeafKit? "LeafKit is now six moons old. She and SongPool will travel to MoonCave tomorrow night, and LeafKit will recive her medicine cat powers. May they travel well," RainStar finished.
She glanced at her clan proudly, SparkPaw noticed, and let her sight linger on DarkHeart. What's going on between them? RainStar is a female leader- she can't have kits with him, or anyone! SparkPaw put the thought out of his mind, and padded over to EmberPaw to congratulate him. Then he stopped. He needed his mentor's permission! "ShadePelt? Can I go see EmberPaw?"
"Yeah. Be quick. I'm going to get in at least one lesson before the sun sets," ShadePelt answered.
SparkPaw trotted to EmberPaw, who seemed really popular with MudPaw already. They were talking, so SparkPaw sat right beside EmberPaw. "Hey, SparkPaw. What's up," EmberPaw asked.
"Just came to congratulate you for getting to be an apprentice. ShadePelt is gonna teach me something before sun down. See ya around," he said as he got up to run off.
As soon as he got back to ShadePelt, he was looking at him rather expectantly.
"I'd have thought you'd be a bit quicker. Come on."
SparkPaw followed ShadePelt to the training grounds, which were located right at the seashore, because the sand was very soft. No cat could fall and injure themself here, unless they twisted something. ShadePelt instantly crouched, crept foreward, and pounced. "That was how to sneak up on a mouse. Make sure your pawsteps light, and move slowly. Beware even the smallest twig, because if it snaps, then that mouse will hear it, then you just lost your dinner. You try," ShadePelt instructed.
After a single attempt, SparkPaw exactly copied ShadePelt's tracking technique. "Okay. Very good. Let's try it on a real mouse. Go hunt and bring be back three mice before sunset. I'll track you and see how you're doing. Think of it as an accessment," ShadePelt told him, then flicked his tail dismissively.
SparkPaw instantly ran off, with all the speed in StarClan at his paws. He stopped, scented the air, and instantly lowered himself silently into a crouch. He crept foreward, just as he had learned moments ago, then pounced, and finished the unsuspecting mouse off with a single bite to the neck. He buried the prey at a tree's base, then he crouched again. He saw a bird- a falcon- above him. He knew his fur didn't blend with the surroundings, so he crouched in a bramble thicket. But right before he got in it, the falcon saw him, and had almost latched it's talons in his back, as he turned upside down, and grabbed the falcon's talons. He brought it down to the ground, and bit it hard enough to kill it. He felt the feathered bird go limp, and he gazed silently, yet proudly, at his falcon. Not many cats caught falcons.
A moment later, he heard a sound in a nearby bush. He instantly pricked his ears, only to relax them as he saw his mentor looking at him proudly. "Well done, SparkPaw. A falcon is a truly respectable catch. You must show this bird to RainStar. She'll be pleased. By the way, I took your one mouse back to camp. We can retire for the night- this is more impressive than a clan's worth in mousetails," ShadePelt praised him.
SparkPaw picked up his falcon, and dragged it back to camp. Just as he walked through the clearing, he saw the whole clan eyes on him, burning into his pelt. They all gathered around him and started asking him a lot of questions.
"How'd you catch that?"
"Wow. How'd you manage to get that in your paws?"
"Isn't that falcon a bit tiresome to have to carry back here?"
He dropped the falcon for a moment. He heard the whole clearing become silent. He raised his voice, "I caught it during an assessment. It was over near the shoreline, where the six trees clear towards the streams."
He picked up his falcon, and dragged it proudly to RainStar, who was proudly looking at his catch. "Well done, SparkPaw. You spoke like a leader when the clan was questioning you, and you even caught an impressive looking falcon on your first hunt."

LeafKit sat in SongPool's den, listening to her mix up some herbs that she'd soon know by scent and touch. She sat silently, flicking her tail impatiently. She wanted to go to MoonCave badly, and she just hated waiting. LeafKit had never been a patient cat. "You just about done, SongPool? I'm starting to think that it'll be the start of leaf-bare when you get done," LeafKit mewed.
"Yeah, I'm done... Just one more. Here, you eat these," SongPool said as LeafKit felt leaves and seeds hit the front of her paws.
LeafKit silently bent down to sniff the herbs, then she licked them up, off of the wide leaf that they had been sitting on. She didn't know any of the herbs... yet. She sat up and licked her mouth, to gather any scraps she had missed by accident. "Okay. They taste bad, but the taste isn't long lasting... Ready, now?"
"I am now. Come on. We have a bit of a journey, even though the MoonCave is closest to StreamClan territory," SongPool replied.
Both cats walked out of the camp. LeafKit raised her nose and tried to scent herbs like the ones she had eaten moments before. She could only smell one, which was almost completly overpowered by the scents of prey. One of the herbs had obviously taken her hunger away, because her mouth wasn't watering. SongPool guided LeafKit through the forest with her tail on LeafkKit's shoulder. "SongPool," LeafKit broke the silence.
"We're almost there. What is it?"
"I saw could detect a slight trace of affection... from you, for RowanFur. You obviously like him. But you're a medicine cat. Isn't that hard, having your heart broken between your clan and a loved one?"
"You've noticed... I'm not suprised. And, yes. It's against the warrior code for a medicine cat to have a mate or kits. I think RowanFur feels the same about me. I'll be glad, in a way, when I become an elder, because then I won't be a medicine cat anymore. You will. I'll miss the life of a medicine cat, always thinking of the whole clan as your kits and siblings. But if I retire, then RowanFur can be my mate. That's a flaw in the warrior code. It never said that elders, including retired medicine cats, couldn't have kits," SongPool explained.
"True," LeafKit agreed.
"Well, now that your question has been answered, don't you think it's time to go in the MoonCave?"
"We're there, already?"
"Yeah. Come in."
LeafKit was guided by the soft murmurs of other cats. She felt light on her paws, as if she had joined StarClan themselves. Her whiskers finally quit hitting the walls, telling LeafKit that they had reached a clearing in the cave. She heard other cats, the other medicine cats, follow in behind her.
"Touch your nose to the floor spike in the middle," SongPool advised, doing the same.
LeafKit obeyed, and instantly falling into a light sleep. She couldn't feel the cold cave floor anymore, or the cold floor spike. She opened her eyes, and saw BlueStar in front of her. She blinked, checking to see if she was real or not. Then she remembered- she was dreaming. She touched noses with the great leader. "Welcome, dear LeafKit. Look around you. You are sharing dreams with the rest of the medicine cats. They are going to see you become an apprentice."
"Wow! Hi, SongPool!"
"Please don't be distracted, dear one. The rest of StarClan have gathered here to see this day. It's the day LeafKit becomes a medicine cat apprentice! This is a special day- one told of StarClan cats that have seen your future. You'll be very powerful as a medicine cat. Very well. Let's begin. SongPool, please proceed."
SongPool nodded, then stepped foreward. StarClan watched in silence. "LeafKit, is it your wish to enter the mysteries of a medicine cat?"
"It is."
"Then come foreward. Warriors of StarClan, I present to you this kit. She has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight, so that she may understand your ways and heal her Clan in accordance with your will. LeafKit, you will now be known as LeafPaw," SongPool finished.
The cats of StarClan gathered around her, flooding her nostrils with unfamilliar scents and sounds. She could see them. She could see. This is one reason why LeafPaw loved her dreams. In her dreams, she had sight, which was something she never had in her real life. StarClan called out their approval, by shouting her name, "LeafPaw! LeafPaw!"
LeafPaw touched noses with SongPool, and looked at the cats of StarClan, "I'll do by best. I promise you that."
As soon as LeafPaw and SongPool returned to the camp, she heard the camp and scented everything differently, knowing more about the sound of each pawstep. She couldn't see anything now, but when she dreamed... she saw everything. She started to go to the nursery, then she stopped short. She was an apprentice. A medicine cat apprentice. She would sleep in the medicine cat's den. She proudly lifted her chin and trotted to the medicine cat's den proudly, with her tail held high.
