The M. Night Shyamalan Club--(Caution: Movies PG-13)
Permalink Closed

This is for all M. Night Shyamalan fans to gather and talk about his main movies! All (except the Happening) are PG-13 and PG. Here's the movies we will discuss:

Spoilers may be in this thread.
 1. The Sixth Sense
 2. Unbreakable
 3. Signs
 4. The Village
 5. Lady in the Water
 6. The Happening
--Note: The Happening is a graphic movie. If talking about this movie, discuss it's overall summary, do not include frightening details. Talk about the concept of it.

  M. Night Shyamalan also co-wrote Stuart Little, and created Wide Awake and Praying with Anger, two early movies. He also has three or four notebooks filled with future ideas, and he will be starting on Avatar: The Last Airbender movie, which will be realeased around June or July in 2010.

Rules:
1. Make sure to use spoiler tags for certain twists (especially to cover up M. Night's twist endings, and for those who may have only seen a few of his movies)
2. Keep everything PG and PG-13. Do not talk gorishly, there are users under 13. I understand the Happening is quite gorish, but keep in mind that M. night is not a gorish man. He made the movie R-rated for a reason, and in an interview he says it's because he wanted to create an effect that would make you feel scared, so remember to only talk about overall summaries for scary movies/scenes.
3. Remember to stay on topic. You can talk about M. Night's movies, future movies, ideas, and about M. Night Shyamalan himself, but remember to follow the rules while doing so.

Current Polls:
What's your favorite quote from an M. Night Shyamalan movie?(spoilers may follow)
1. "I see dead people." (Cole, The Sixth Sense)
2. "I like your house. Can I come in?" (Orange suit man, Unbreakable)
3. "Everybody in this family needs to calm down and eat some fruit or something!" (Graham Hess, Signs)
4. "Sometimes we don't do things we want to do so others don't know we want to do them." (Ivy Walker, The Village)
5. "My god, this is like a moment from a horror movie. This is precisely the moment where the mutation or beast will attempt to kill an unlikable side character. But, in stories where there has been no prior cursing, violence, nudity or death, such as in a family film, the unlikable character will escape his encounter, and be referenced later in the story, having learned valuable lessons. He may even be given a humorous moment to allow the audience to feel good about him. This is where I turn to run. You will leap for me, I will shut the door, and you will land a fraction of a second too late."
[Turns to run, is killed by wolf]  (someone in Lady in the Water(I will not reveal the name, not an important character, but I don't want to tell)
6. "Cheese and crackers!" (Private Auster, The Happening)

Oh, yeah you should definitely see them. The Village has a slight twist ending, but some people just dont like it, it's like you dont know if youll like it until you see it, because it gives off a different effect to different people, I like it, though. And lady in the water is meant to be a freaky bedtime story M. Night tells his two daughters, he even has a book that he wrote that he based the movie on, but there's no realy twist at the end. It is mysterious though, I love it. It was the first movie I saw from him. Sixth Sense is so classic, I love it. :] I got it on my iPod and that's like all I do on my iPod the past like 12 hours or so when I got the movie on it. :P Its like it never gets boring, everytime it has a new effect.
(If someones reading this whos never seen the sixth sense, beware of the spoiler)

Spoiler

Also, if you like M. Night's twist endings, then you should check out Unbreakable some time. It had a great storyline, its about a man who was born with a disease where he easily breaks bones and gets hurt(no spoilers ahead, this is in all the plots on the back of the movies). He hates being like that, and he grows up reading comic books, and becomes obsessed with them, because at school he's teased and called Mr. Glass because his bones break like glass. When he grows up, he has an art shop with comic book art.
meanwhile, a man named David Dunn (Bruce willis) gets into a train crash. Everyone but him died, he didnt have a scratch on him. He finds a note on his car from Elijah, the breakable man, and the two talk to each other, and Elijah tells David Dunn he's meant to be a hero, like in comic books. David thinks the man is wrong. But he soon realizes that he may be meant to be a hero after all. But it's like the Sixth Sense, you assume its about one straight storyline, and just when that storyline seems to come to an end, theres a twist and changes the whole entire movie, so it's really great. :]

Also, I think it's really cool to see his cameos in his movies, theyre really cool! I heard that in the Sixth Sense , he was supposed to get really mad at Cole's mom, and say a lot of bad things to her, but he kept laughing, so he changed the script and shortened that scene. xD

spoiler from The Happening (nothing reveals the plot, just M. Night's appearance) (i couldnt wrap it in spoilers correctly, so if you dont want to know where or who he is, dont read on at all)

My dad and I couldn't find M. Night in The Happening, so we were kind of disappointed that we didn't manage to spot him in the first time seeing it. Then I looked online and I found out that he was in the credits as Joey, who's mentioned a little, but isnt a major character. Turns out, he was only in the credits, but never appeared in the movie. He supposedly did that becuase there are people who say he's very arrogant to show up in his movies, so he did that as a joke to those people. XD
