Moony's Tuts -Photoshop Sig Tut UPPP!-

Welcome to Moony's Tuts!
I will put various art and sig tutorials I complete up here. The programs I use are Photoshop and Fireworks 8, but I bet if you fiddle with some of the steps you can make it work on your program. Most will be very short, like "How to Make a Cool Background" or something, but if you put all of them together you can come up with an awesome sig!

Tuts up soon.

If you haven't already, check out my Moony Style Sig Tut by going
here!

Photoshop Sig- Moony Style Tutorial

Hey guys! This is my tutorial on how to make a sig on Photoshop. I will show you the way I make them; there are many other ways, so dont let this tutorial limit you! This is just my style to help get you started, so once youre more experienced, find your own way to personalize your signatures!

So lets begin. Go to File<New. Put the width on 500 and the height on 200. Leave everything else alone. Make sure the Color Mode says RGB Color.

Now that you have a blank sig, create a new layer and apply one basic color to the background using the Brush Tool. Im going to use red, but I suggest not using a pure color. Try using a shade, because the effect were going to use on it later will stand out better that way.

Now go to Filter<Texture. It will give you six texture choices. Click on one of them and a window will pop up. Try each texture out to see which you like best. I almost always use Texturizer, but use whatever you think looks best.

Our backgrounds done now. Its time for pictures!
Find a picture you want to use and paste it onto your sig. Im going to use a Panic at the Disco one.

If your image is too big, go to Edit<Transform<Scale to scale it to your liking. But I will leave mine this way.

Now its time to cut out the image. If your image has a white background, you can use the Magic Wand Tool (located right between the Crop Tool and Magnetic Lasso Tool) to select the white space around the image and delete it. In my case, I have to use the eraser.

Select the eraser (between the History Brush and Paint Bucket). Choose a feathered brush no larger than 21. This insures cutting accuracy. Now use Ctrl + to zoom in as close as you need to and begin erasing the unwanted parts of your image. Be careful.

Once youre done cutting out your object, your current result should look something like this:

If you noticed, I also rotated the image just a little just for fun. You can do this by selecting the image, then going to File<Transform<Rotate.

Now its time for text. When I make text on a sig, I usually emphasize certain parts of the text by making them stand out more, such as making them rainbow colors, larger in size, a different font, etc. So separate your text into sections to make applying different effects to different parts of the text easier.

Notice how each set of words is on its own layer. This is so when one effect is applied to one set, only the words in that set are changed.

Now we add the effects.

Double click on the first word/set of words layer. A window should pop up with a bunch of weird effects. By clicking on those little boxes, you are applying the effect to the word. In my case, the first word of this phrase is not a word I want to emphasize, so Im going to check Drop Shadow, Bevel and Emboss (both Contour and Texture), and Color Overlay. Since the default Color Overlay color is red and my background is red, Im going to click on the Color Overlay box and click on the Red color to change it. Im going to make it white. If you want to change the size as well, after clicking Ok on the Layer Style box, click on the T (text tool) again and you should see the size box at the top. Change it to your liking.

Now do the same thing to all the other words you do not want to emphasize. You should have something like this:

Its obvious I want to emphasize the words eyes and moon. Now its time to work on the emphasis. Double click the layers and add all the effects youd like to begin with. This usually is just adding all the effects you added to the other words, but this time Im not going to add Color Overlay. Instead, Im going to add Gradient Overlay. Now click on the Gradient Overlay panel to adjust the Gradient pattern. See where it says Gradient: ? Click on the little arrow on the Gradient color strip next to that. It will give you some pre-made choices of gradients for your word. Select one you like. Do the same to the other word.

Heres what mine looks like:

I also changed the sizes of the emphasized words. I usually dont keep the same fonts, but this time was different.

So, thats about it! Heres my final result:

That was a hopefully very simple tut on how to make a sig like me on Photoshop! Thank you for reading and please try it out and post any results. Thank you!
