Prolouge
The cold, north wind howled in the frosty winter night. A tabby tom cried for help as snow started to fall. His thick coat was nothing for this winter night though is was thick and fluffy. He shivvered in the could and tried not to lick his pelt. It will only make me colder... he kept on chanting. His clan, DawnClan, was nowhere to be seen. They disapeared suddenly, just like when the snow fallen. It was unexpected and strange. The tabby meowed again, not even caring if a two-leg put him in their huts. At leas I'll be warm... he thought. He shivvered again and stuck his toungue out only to put it back in his mouth. Don't lick myself! he said again. The snow fell harder and it landed everywhere now, and as far as the cat could see, snow was everywhere. The ice landed on his pelt and he groaned. Padding to a tree's roots, he dug and dug until he made a little cave for shelter. "Oh c'mon.." he whispered. He watched as the snow fell beautifully and sang his mother's lullaby to make him go to sleep. He drifted off to a dream.......

"Thornpaw.. Thornpaw!" A beautiful tortiseshell whispered to the tabby. Thornpaw woke up. "Poppystar!" he exclaimed. He saw his leader, but she had stars in her pelt. "Your... d- dead?" he staggered. Poppystar nodded. "This will happen to you if you don't do something. When you went to hunt one day, we all died from the coldness and whitecough that went around the camp. It was sudden," she explained. "It killed cats faster than Rosepad could heal. At the end, Rosepad became so hungry and sick she died too, leaving the sick cats to die.." Poppystar's voice trailed off and Thornpaw saw their beautiful medicine cat in his mind, Rosepad. She was beautiful, like Poppystar, and was DawnClan's leader's sister. Poppystar stifled a sob. "No one could handle whitecough and we all died. You weren't in camp for just awhile and we all died...." Tears dropped now as she remembered her painful death. Poppystar shook them off her face and stared at the living apprentice. "Thornpaw," she said, suddenly serious. "Don't go and kill yourself. You have a full life ahead of you. Go and find another living clan, if you can. It means they might be moons of travel away, but find them. Go tell them DawnClan died; they were wiped away by whitecough, hunger, and coldness. Tell them you need their help. Tell them they're your only hope!" Poppystar was very serious now, her eyes telling nothing, neither her face. "PLEASE!" she begged. "You're our only hope for DawnClan now!" Poppystar was practiclly on her knees begging now. "Please!!???" Thownpaw looked away. He hated the look on his leader's face, but Poppystar pretended no to notice the young apprentice. "Please try to find another clan, MoonClan, RainClan, or CloudClan! Please find them, or die trying..." Poppystar stared at Thornpaw. She met the apprentice's eyes and stared into them, making Thornpaw blink back in supprise. Their leader usually wasn't like this! Thornpaw finally manage to stare back and reply seriously, "I, Thornpaw, the only cat left in DawnClan, will try to find either MoonClan, RainClan, or CloudClan, our die trying.." He looked at Poppystar then added, "I swear that in StarClan!" No cat ever broke a promise when they swear it by the name of StarClan, unless they were bad. Thornpaw smiled to himself but it quickly faded when he remembered his dead Clan. "I swear..." He looked back up at Poppystar and saw her smile for a quick second. She bent down to lick Thornpaw's ear and whispered one last word to him.
"Thank you Thornpaw......"

Chapter 1

Thornpaw woke up suddenly to see the dim light of dawn. DAWN. Thornpaw felt butterflies in his stomach. DawnClan... his clan, was gone. And he has to save it, he has to build the clan again. His stomach churning from hunger, he crawled out from his den under the tree's roots. Thornpaw padded to a clump of bracken where he figured would be prey. Sniffing the air, his nose led him to a tree, and he saw the leaves shuffling. Instantly smelling the mouse, Thornpaw dropped into a hunter's crouch and slowly put his feet down, one step at a time. When he reached the mouse, or about 1 foot away, Thornpaw jumped. Landing on the dumb mouse, he bit the neck and the mouse died before he could even squeal. "Ahh..." Thornpaw sighed with satisfaction. He carried the mouse over to a tree and sniffed the fresh prey. He reminded himself that he probably wouldn't get prey for a long time, to eat the prey slowly and let his hunger die down a little. Thornpaw sniffed the mouse one last time before he took a teeny bite out of it and chewed it slowly. The prey tasted amazing, the meat delicious. He took more small bites and before even half of it, Thornpaw was full. "I'll save it!" he decided. Thornpaw carried the prey in his mouth and sniffed the ground for any left over scent of a clan. None. The snow the night before had washed it all away. "MOUSE DUNG!" he exclaimed with maddness. Thornpaw stared into the sky and prayed to StarClan he'd find a way to find a clan, or die trying. RIght now, he wasn't improving at all. Sighing, Thornpaw walked straight, following his instincts, to find any clan.

Chapter 2

Thornpaw staggered through the melting snow. With his prey still in his mouth, it was quite hard to track a clan whatsoever, with the eroma of prey filling your nose. Everything smells like mouse, mouse, or mouse. Thornpaw sighed and bent down to take a bite of his prey. Just as he was doing it, an eagle flung down from the sky, spotting the mouse Thornpaw killed. Hearing the bird, Thornpaw stood, shocked. He ran around, but the eagle was faster. Flying towards Thornpaw, he grabbed the mouse, leaving talon marks of the cat's thick fur. Loosing the prey and injuring himself, Thornpaw felt defeated. "Ugg..." he sighed. "Mouse dung. That would've been good!" He shook his head in shame and walked on, sniffing the ground without the smell of mouse in his nose. "At least that helps!" he said to himself. "Hm...." he said, supprised. "I see snow tracks!" Realizing the tracks were fresh and was leaking with the smell of RainClan cats, Thornpaw became excited. "What if they just came here?" he asked himself. "What if I'll find them soon?" Far in the forest, a wolf howled with doubt.

Chapter 3
Thornpaw glanced excitedly around for any RainClan members. He sniffed the frosty air, too, but didn't find anything. The clan cats gone somewhere for shelter, somewhere safe and well hidden, even from scent. Thornpaw slumped down, disapointed, but told himself 'You still have chances!'. He followed the tracks of pawprints in the snow and realized the pawprints were not only one clan, but two! He sniffed the ground carefully, sure one clan was RainClan, but not sure about the other. It smelled like MoonClan, though he never smelled it well. He knew for a fact it wasn't CloudClan, which left MoonClan as the last one. Smiling with satisfaction, he realized both clans could help him to build a clan, so his clan could the abilities of DawnClan, MoonClan, and RainClan. Suddenly, Thornpaw's excitement faded. "I need a mate to have kits, which starts DawnClan.." he said. "I don't know where to find a mate!" He tried to shake off the sorrow and went to hunt down the clans. "I'll find them and build DawnClan again!" he said. "I sweared to StarClan. No cat dares to break a StarClan swear!"

Chapter 4
Thornpaw stared straight ahead into the foggy mist that suddenly came down. Things were weird somehow, like how a small apple could grown into a full apple in minutes, and just how DawnClan got swiped out in a few minutes, leaving Thornpaw the only one, and maybe a few others. Thornpaw sighed. He trudged across the snowy field and stopped a few times, his eyes showing no expression. The wind blew an icy chill down Thornpaw's back, and he tucked his ears down. He kept his tail between his legs, to keep warm, and fluffed up his thick orange colored pelt, which stood out in the white like a fire. Thornpaw begged for snow not to fall, he just found tracks of two clans. As he finished his plead, a few drifts of snow began to fall and THornpaw sighed. He ran, following the tracks into nowhere in paticular and waited for the ground to be covered in fresh snow, not letting him find the clans.

Chapter 5
Thornpaw sighed. "Snow just has to fall the moment you DON'T want it..." he said to himself. Snow had a lot of bad things to it. One, it makes you cold, for the obvious part. Two, all the prey hide in spots to keep safe and it's hard to catch prey. Three, if your trying to find a clan, in Thornpaw's point of view, the snow covers the the tracks. Thornpaw rolled his eyes, cursed under his breath, and ran, following the tracks. Pretend that a bomb is gonna go off in any minute, and I'm running for my life! Thornpaw kept saying to himself. Run! Thornpaw tripped sometimes, but kept his little mind trick. "A bomb... is gonna.. go off-- and I'll die any - time!" he panted. Finally, Thornpaw reached a spot where he was so tired he would do anything, but get up and run. He closed his eyes for a second, not caring about the snow, his surroundings, the clans, nothing. Suddenly, in his ear, he heard Poppystar whisper. "Remember your promise!" She whispered. "Your doing great... don't stop now!" Thornpaw's eyes opened quickly and he jumped onto his feet. "I'm not gonna give up!" he said, disapointed in himself. "I'll never give up, until my heart stops beating!" Slowly, he followed the snow tracks.

Chapter 6
Thornpaw sighed slowly again and padded across the snow tracks. He stared intently, but didn't see anymore tracks. He bent his head down, and didn't smell any of the clans. "Mouse dung!" he cursed. Suddenly, his nostril flared and it lwed him to his right. There was a huge moss-covered cave, which smelled like clan cats. Thornpaw's heart missed a beat. "Is it them?" he asked. "Please let it be!!!" He jumped to the cave and pushed through the moss-covered door. Suddenly, hundereds of beady eyes stared at him. A cat stepped up, and Thornpaw recongnized her as Leafstar. "Who are you?" she asked coldly. Thornpaw smiled. "I- I'm Thornpaw. Thornpaw from DawnClan... or what was DawnClan. It's a long story... I guess I'll have to tell you." he sat down, and the clan cats sat down along with him. "We're ready!" Leafstar called. Thornpaw nodded curtly and cleared his throat.

Chapter 7
Thornpaw embraced himself for a long story and a lot of questions. He stared wearily back at the eyes that stared at him, his breath shortening from fear, his heart skipping a beat every so often. Faint sunlight streamed through the little space the moss left for it, though the air around him was cold, even with the sun and all the cats. He took a deep breath and began. "A long time ago... possibly moons, my clan, DawnClan, suffered from whitecough. Our medicine cat, Rosepad, worked day and night trying to save them, not even stopping to take a bite of prey.." He looked around and saw the apprentices and kits' eyes wide, really soaking the story in. One apprentice, or possibly warrior, an orange she-cat with pale green eye sat down close to Thornpaw, her sweet look staring into Thornpaw's expressionless, but sad face. "Soon after, Rosepad died," Thornpaw said, continuing. His honey-clolred eyes showed pain when he remembered the death and vigil of their brave medicine cat, dying to save her clan. "She didn't have an apprentice, so it left our clan with whitecough, and without a medicine cat." Thornpaw stopped to look at the cats and take a breath. "So... our clan suffereed badly. I, was lucky and didn't catch the disease, for I was carefull. One day.." His voice trailed off. He strained to get it back, "I went out to catch fresh prey. When I came back, the clan was gone. I was scared, and I didn't know where they went." He sighed. His pelt froze as the cold wind blew, but didn' bother to lick it; he was to sad. The memory flashed back into his mind, that cold winter day when he found out his tribe died, when he saw Poppystar in his dream, that day maybe a month ago. "I left the camp, searching for them, when I had a dream with Poppystar, my leader. She told me the tribe died of whitecough when I left to hunt, and I have to find a clan to build up DawnClan again. I was their only hope, and I had to do it, for DawnClan, or else there would only be 3 clans left." He stared into the peircing, supprising eyes of the cats in the different clans and sighed. "Please help me.." he finally begged, before he fell asleep dead on his paws.

Chapter 8
Thornpaw woke up to find the thin light rays shining through the moss at the ceiling. He stared at the RainClan  and MoonClan cats. The orange tabby she-cat stepped up to him. "So the story's  real.." she said, smiling. Thornpaw nodded. "I'm Thornpaw.." he introduced, blushing. She smiled. "I'm Firepaw, of RainClan!" Smiling at him, she added, "Maybe we could be good friends and train together!" Her pale green eyes brightened at the idea. Thornpaw shrugged. "I guess.." Firepaw jumped up and down. "All right!" she exclaimed. Thornpaw sighed and rolled his eyes. This apprentice was excited!! Firepaw stopped and licked Thornpaw's thick pelt. "Maybe you could teach me how to catch a sparrow!" she said suddenly. Thornpaw shrugged. "Sure..." he answered slowly. Firepaw's tail curled up in excitement. "C'mon then! Let's go!!" Dragging Thornpaw out, she left the den to go to the woods.
"Okay.. you crouch like this.. then SPRING!!!" Thornpaw shouted, jumping on the brown sparrow. He killed it with a nip in the neck. "You try." he said, nodding toward the bird to the left. Firepaw nodded, and copied Thornpaw. She jumped and caught the bird, with a swipe instead. "Good!!" he exclaimed with triumph. It was quite fun teaching someone how to hunt. Smiling, he said, "You're a great hunter!!" Firepaw's eye's sparkled with happiness. "THANKS!" she replied. "You're better!" Thornpaw licked her ear. "I trained... I'm accutally almost done with my training, and you just started for about 4 moons! That's pretty  good!" Firepaw nodded  in aggreement.  "I guess it is.." she  mumbled in embarresment. Thornpaw  smiled and padded toward her. "Lets go  get the   prey back to  camp." Firepaw  padded next to  Thornpaw, and they  walked back to the den together,  each holding their prize.
