Carsten looked up quickly, flipping another page in his textbook. "Oh, hey!" he greeted Nearra cheerfully. "What's up?" He closed the German book and dumped it back into his bag. "Yeah, sure, have a seat," he added, scooting over to his left a little. His eyes narrowed a little, straining to remember. "You're a...sophomore?" he guessed slowly.
"Thanks," she said, really hoping she hadn't bothered him. Nodding, she was surprised that he remembered. Well, kinda. "Yeah," Nearra said, sitting down beside him and made a weak attempt a joke. "I'm a s'more." She paused, then said crossly, "The most annoying class in the world. Not even joking." Nearra shut her mouth quickly. She hadn't meant to say that out loud. She cleared her throat, peeling and biting into the banana before she could embarrass herself again.
ic; Carsten chuckled. "I'd nominate freshmen for that, actually. They still seem to think they're in middle school..." He shivered. "I hope I didn't seem that immature two years ago...but unfortunately, I probably did." He grinned crookedly. "Junior year is pretty bad. Not annoying, but...I mean, you're over halfway done with high school, but you still have one more year! What's up with that?" he demanded, laughing.
"Some of them think they're all high and mighty," she added between bites, silently hoping the same thing. And that she didn't still seem that way to some people. She held out her unopened water bottle, silently asking if he wanted some. Nearra knew it was kinda gross to do but she didn't really care. "I'm not really ready to leave high school," she said quietly, staring at the banana. "I'd like to stay... this age for a while. Not having to worry about everything like bills and stuff but having some responsibilities to be able to do stuff on your own, you know?"
Carsten nodded in agreement. "Yeah, of course. Same here, in a way. It's a good age." He fiddled with a stray piece of hair that was right in front of his nose. "Especially if you're sixteen or seventeen, then you can drive, but you still live at home and you're still a sophomore or junior...you don't have to think about college as much as when you're a senior, so the stress level isn't quite as high...but if you can drive, then you can just get away for a bit by going to an empty park or even just sitting by yourself outside a store. But you don't have the huge responsibility of living alone, having to fully take care of yourself or even a family...but you can still have the responsibility of school and maybe an after-school job." He paused, taking a deep breath and licking his dry lips. Carsten chuckled as he wordlessly took Nearra's water bottle, twisting open the cap. "I haven't made a monologue like that in so long! I need this now." He chuckled again as he poured a sip of the water into his mouth without letting his lips touch the bottle - a "waterfall," as some say.
ooc; whew, that was long!! but it's my real opinion, so I had to be descriptive. xD
