Greenpaw followed Tealwhisker though the rest of the territory, trying to take everything in, but unable to keep her mind off her brother and sister. One question raced through her head. Are they going to live? After the tour of the territory, it was beginning to grow dark. Greenpaw stalked across the camp, trying to ignore the glares shot at her from other cats. She padded into the apprentices' den and curled up on a bed of moss in the corner, away from the other apprentices, who were beginning to trickle into the den for the night. Greenpaw closed her eyes and sleep came quickly.
The moon rose high above the RiverClan camp, and a soft breeze blew through the trees, filling the ears of four cats with it's music. Leafstar lay in his den, three warriors surrounding him.
"I thought I could trust you," he growled to the three around him. Waterfoot and Tealwhisker hung their heads, but Winterfang held his high. "You were supposed to get them to trust me, to think I was an amazing leader, but look what you did!" he snarled.
"I'm sorry sir, but it was Winterfang who attacked his apprentice," Waterfoot said, voice soft. Leafstar's eyes flicked to the senior warrior who mentored Gempaw.
"Of all cats, Winterfang, I was counting on you the most! I knew you could do it, but you let me down." Winterfang didn't show any sign that he'd been deeply hurt by the matter.
"Leafstar, I swear I heard you say before at a clan meeting that these cats are not to be trusted, and do not deserve to be treated well. I also thought I heard you say that these cats must be trained very well, to be strong. I was only beginning her work on water fighting," Winterfang explained, a smug look on his face. Leafstar snarled at the warrior.
"What you were doing was much too rough for training!" he hissed.
"But we cannot be gentle with the Stormcats!" Winterfang spat back. For a while the two toms just glared at each other, then Leafstar broke the silence.
"Is there anything you three think might help me in my plan?" he asked, tail flicking, and keeping a wary eye on Winterfang. Tealwhisker stepped forward.
"When I was showing Greenpaw the territory, I heard her say that she'd kind of like to be a medicine cat. Do you think we can make her one?" she asked. A crooked grin crossed Leafstar's face.
"This is the information I need. We want these cats to do their best, and be very strong, love what they're doing so they can do the best at it. I do believe we can make Greenpaw a medicine cat apprentice," he said. Tealwhisker nodded. Leafstar looked to Waterfoot.
"Nightpaw has great potential as a warrior, he learns fast, and with training, he can become a strong swimmer. He'll do well," he explained. The leader nodded.
"Thank you my warriors, and remember, we want these Stormcats to forget their past. We need them to be totally absorbed in their training. That is all." The three warriors left the leader's den without another word. "I have big plans for these cats. Big plans," he whispered to himself once the warriors were gone.
