Cali's tail was lashing and her whole manner seemed threatening and challenging. "She died! She got herself killed! She left me here all alone without anybody to show me what to do! What kind of example is that? Why should I follow her example when she left her only child and then died? She wasn't as amazing as everybody thought. She wasn't special or amazing or fantastic. She never did anything but have a child and get killed. What an amazing example. I hope one I'm that awesome. If I live one more year I'll be doing better than her, Dempsey." she said loosing steam at the end.

Dempsey pushed his ears back and lsitened to Cali. He wasn't sure if he should talk just in case she lost it. Waiting until she was done he stood up and walked to her putting his head to the side of her face. "Just calm down." He barked and moved back to look at her. "You cant just always think about the negative things about your mother. She was a wonderful wolf to the pack and wolves she met. Yea she died and left you but everything happens for a reason." He stared at Cali's eyes and frowned.

"What possible reason could there be for her to leave me? She was all I had and when she left it left my heart empty. What could possibly justify her ripping open my heart?" she asked him sadly. Cali's normally lively eyes were sad and empty as she waited for the answer she so deeply wanted.

Dempsey stared at Cali and felt even more pulled toward her for some reason. As he heard her talk he felt his heart raced. Feeling bad for her and what he was feeling. He wanted to comfort her more then anything when it came to her mother but he couldnt if she kept putting up a wall in that problem. "So what if she left! Like I said theres always a reason. When is it going to be time to let someone else in?" He stared at her, his eyes looking deep into hers. He had a hard time dragging them away then looked at the ground.

Cali looked at him and then shyed away from the ideas he planted. "I can't give you my heart when you could do the same thing to me. I don't want to be left with nothing anymore. She left me and I don't think I could ever just give myself to somebody like I did with her. She shouldn't have put herself in harms way like she did. There is no excuse." she told him her voice soft.

Dempsey shook his head and looked back at Cali. "Cali. Im your bestfriend. I would never leave you or break your heart, and I dont think your mom meant to do it either. Cali..." He walked up to her and put his nose to her muzzle. "Just open up alittle more. Not everyone's going to hurt you or make you think theyve hurt you." He sighed and closed his eyes.

"How can you promise me that?" she asked him sadly. Cali wanted to believe him so bad but something was just holding her back from giving Dempsey everything she had. You see how bad she wanted to believe in her eyes as she wanted for him to answer her.

Dempsey looked up and blinked. "I cant promise you, but I can try my hardest to make you believe. You just have to trust me." He smiled and lifted his eyebrows. "You trust me dont you?" Dempsey licked her muzzle and waited for her response.

Cali smiled at him and nodded. "I do trust you and I want to believe but something is holding me back. I just, I don't know anymore." she said and wanted him to change her mind. She wanted him to make her believe and know that with every fiber of ehr being that this is where she was suppose to be and this was going to be good.

Dempsey put his head on Cali's shoulder and closed his eyes. "Then just let go of the feeling thats holding you back." he smiled and opened his eyes. "I just did." He licked her shoulder and closed his eyes again. He knew how he felt about Cali now, and whether she felt the same way or not he didnt care. He would keep his feelings inisde of him or share it, but he really did like her.
