So that's basically what happened to me, Firststep, Secondheart, and Thirdbreeze during the traditions all warriors do, going to the Moonpool. Truthfully, I really don't know what happened then. None of us really do. We were all dumbstruck. Thirdbreeze looked like he wanted to die. As we exited the Moonpool, Secondheart broke the silence.
"Now that was weird," he muttered. Secondheart was always the braver, outgoing one. He never really thought twice about anything and wasn't scared of what people thought of him. Firststep sighed and shook his head.
"Secondheart..." he started. Firststep was the wise one. He always thought twice about everything and was rather hesitant. He was the big brother to all of us. "Secondheart, that wasn't just weird," he finally said. "That meant something important, if StarClan told that to regular warriors of WindClan." I nodded in agreement, not saying anything. Instead, I looked over to Thirdbreeze. He looked frightened out of his skin. If you haven't noticed, Thirdbreeze is the scardy cat.
"Exactly what makes it weird!" Secondheart exclaimed, replying to Firststep's comment. "We must mean something in this prophecy if StarClan told it to us! Why couldn't they tell it to Poppystar or Rabbitwhisker?" Thirdbreeze let out a little choke, to which Secondheart took as an agreement. I sighed.
"Whatever else," I said, "We should keep this as a secret. As Secondheart said, StarClan could've chose to tell Poppystar or Rabbitwhisker, but instead, they told us. Perhaps they don't want it to be told to everyone." Firststep clicked his tail.
"You're right, Fourthsong," he said. "You're absolutely right."
We entered the camp without a word being said. Right when we were visible, mother let out a shriek of delight and ran towards us to congratulate us. Soon, the whole clan surrounded us, giving us their praises. My siblings and I barely said a word, instead, we let them pamper with us and giving out our occasional, face smiles. Our minds were still all on the prophecy,
"You must be dead tired!" Ferncloud said, smiling. "But you can't sleep yet. Remember, vigil!" We all nodded and she left us alone to eat and rest before the killer warrior vigil.
I thought it was tiring enough to stay up all night, guarding the camp, jumping at every little noise, but with the prophecy on my mind, it was complete torture. I knew my brothers felt the same because of the haunted look in their eyes. We would either be thinking about the prophecy, guarding the camp, or trying not to fall asleep. Of course, we were all extremely glad when the sun came up and the dawn patrol left. Sunfall, our deputy, came up to us with a smile on his face.
"You guys must be tired, ehh?" he purred, amusement in his voice. We nodded - too tired to speak. The night seemed to last forever. I broke into a huge yawn and Sunfall laughed when he saw me. "Well, off to bed you go!" Firststep thanked him for all of us and we hurried off the the warrior's den where our new nests awaited us. I slumped into the one in the middle. My brothers surrounded me.
"Sleep, here I come," I muttered. I closed my amber eyes and blackness overwhelmed me.
"Don't be afraid, little one," a voice rang through my head. I opened my eyes to find a perfect reflection of me in front of my eyes, although this cat was so much bigger. A ginger and white cat looked back at me, love in his amber eyes. He had huge shoulders, and they were packed with muscles. Although he was a complete stranger, I felt like I could trust him, and a strange connection traveled through us.
"Don't be afraid," he repeated. "I'll be with you. With all of you." He slowly faded into nothing. I woke up in my nest with a start, and suddenly, everything made sense. That cat, he was my father. I smiled as his words repeated through my head. I'll be with you. With all of you. And suddenly, like magic, I wasn't afraid anymore.
