Late or early, gifts that are hand made always blow people away. even if they are not as good as they could be.
Not saying your drawing sucks. In fact, if I were to compare it with your previous works, I'd say you've come a long way. Nicely Done my friend. Nicely done. Hope your friend enjoys their gift. +D
