@scorch;; ...sometimes i wonder.

@katana;; most (all?) of the time here you don't really ask; you just post the form and if you've got mistakes, the op will tell you and then add you once you've got the problem solved. ouo

@jagged;; "considering this was all new to him" i'd just like to point out that none of it should be new since they're all supposedly going to be used to taking care of themselves and such. even camping out in enemy territory shouldn't be a completely new thing. just making sure you know that n__n

ooc; since lulu's not helping the plot at all at the moment, i'll just use her as an excuse for something else x__x; not much lulu can do on her own as of yet.

The two Resistance Gifted's companion had not abandoned them in their time of need; instead of worrying around and offering herself as a potential target--she neither had her male companion's ability to hide nor her female counterpart's superior speed--Cecilia had hidden herself away behind a tree before calling a meeting of the green spirits that had been silently watching. After spending the majority of their lives with no company than that of their own and, occasionally, the children's, they initially had no want to speak with the strange meat-creature which reached out to them, interrupting their ancient slumber.

It had taken a substantial amount of... negotiation for the trees to finally agree to be her spies--at least for the moment, until the fleet-footed breeze-that-wasn't had finally been eliminated--but succeed Cecilia had. Failure, after all, was never an option and only a few times in her life had she actually been forced to consider the possibility. She had watched through the trees' eyes as the woman had danced back and forth at an impossible rate, her taunting words making even the tight-lipped rebel crack a smile. At last, when the woman had finally settled down, she had managed to get the trees to cover her as she snuck up on her. The needle jab had been fast, and the poison even faster, quicker than even the Hunter could move. The blonde had fixed her with a piercing glare that promised a painful, tortuous death, and Cecilia had calmed the sudden increase in heart rate before replying casually, "I'm sorry, but I really don't think you'll get that chance." Sweeping a mock bow to the dying Hunter had been rather hard in the boughs of a tree--she lacked the instinctual balance the Hunters had--but scrambling down after taking a peek at the poison had not been.

"They were right, you know," Cecilia said carefully as she came into view, hands working to put her hair back into its tight bun. "I was watching you as you carried Sarah, and really, it's a really good thing that these children were around." Her careless tone betrayed none of the respect-tinged-with-jealousy she had for the children--the poison had been something that she had not been able to create a counter-measure for, and yet these children had. She would have to ask them how they did it later.... "But it looks like she'll be fine. Thank you."

-----

Joshua had heard the woman scrambling down the tree trunk (she might have been fast, but her stealth left much to be desired--at least, in terms of forest life). Re-corking the bottle, the blonde stood rapidly and slammed his head into the hovering presence that he could not see above him (and was more pleased than he should have been to feel the top of his head connect with something) before casually eying the woman over. He just nodded in response to the appreciation and as he ambled over back to his brother to give him the vial. "Now's your chance to get payment," he whispered quietly so that only he could hear him as he wrapped his brother's fingers around the emptied antidote vial. Stepping back, he turned to regard the trio, gaze flat.

"Of course. I mean, it would be kind of stupid to just let someone die at our doorstep, with a cure nearby. However," he paused, not sure it his convincing skills would work - he had only ever tried it on his siblings, "if you have anything...shiny, we...I, would much appreciate if you could...er...give it to us?" He glanced over at the previously-fatally-poisoned-woman and saw her stirring lightly, but it would be a little before she fully awoke.

Joshua noted the same thing his brother did, but he commented to him lightly, "But I think the rain will help wake her up quickly. She's only got a few minutes the most before it falls." He just barely suppressed a smile as he listened to his brother stutter, and while his physical expression did not betray anything, his eyes were sparkling with mirth and he turned slightly to the side to avoid his brother's notice.

Cecilia had tensed when she heard the word "however". She had been living with enough politicians who cared more about their butts than the Rebellion to realize that 'however' never boded well--ever. However, she relaxed when the boy said he only wanted something shiny. A particularly childish wish, but something that could be easily found. Her hands dropping, their task finished, she considered it. As she opened her mouth to speak, the rain shower that Joshua had been predicting for some time now showed itself and although it started only as a light drizzle, it had thickened significantly within seconds--even the thick foliage overhead did nothing to help, and soon visibility had dropped to near-zero for the Rebellion Gifted. Calling out and only hoping that they were still there, she started, "Well, I for one want to get out of this rain. If you don't feel comfortable leading us to your home, perhaps you'd like to follow us? We have a camp within an hour's walk"--this was a lie since she had no idea how far they had come since getting lost--"but I'm sure we'll be able to supply you with the proper renumeration after we arrive."

Javin rubbed his shoulder where the kid had head-butted him, and he stood. For the first time, he made himself visible where the kids could see him. He reached into his pocket, and pulled out a pocket knife, that was shining. He handed it to the older kid. "I have a spare," he said, and then turned himself transparent again. "Would you like to come to our camp?" he repeated Celia's question. Oh sure, yeah he was grateful to them, but they hated him. Oh well. He leaned against a tree.

Aetius frowned at the knife. It seemed so much more fragile than his own knife, which had withstood years of abuse - especially the hunting. He looked up, a sour look in his eyes, saying, "This is what you live with? How do you make it? This thing looks as flimsy as that...plastic...stuff we have back home. It's not even that shiny."

-----

A light feather tickled Sarah's face, and it took her a few moments to realize that it was not a feather, but rain. And that voice seemed to be a kid's, she realized was one of the forest children. Was he complaining that something wasn't shiny or was that just her imagination?

Javin snorted and threw the knife onto the ground. "It's all I have. That or nothing, creep," he hissed, keeping the "creep" part low, so the boy couldn't hear him. He turned and looked around. This was a nice place, well, it could have been. He looked back and saw that Sarah was waking up, and he dropped beside her. "Sarah? It's me, Javin, erm, right above you," he whispered, looking up at the kids. They were so weird. He wanted to pick up the knife he had thrown and, well, never mind that for now. He was angry at them, but happy that Sarah was back in their world.

"Wow, you must be pretty poor, even for your own area. Hmn, all or nothing? I guess then we have no more business with you. Shall we go back home, brother? Getting wet isn't exactly my idea of fun," he replied, raising an eyebrow at Joshua.

---

Sarah blinked and looked up at Javin. "Not so close, please," she muttered, setting herself upright in the rain and gazing at the two kids. She smiled - they were tricky, just as any Gifted should be.

Javin backed away and stood. He glared at the kids. He sighed loudly, and now he didn't even care of they stayed. He was ready to storm out of the woods and go back to the Resistance, proudly saying that he hadn't accomplished his mission. Yes, he would be proud. Could anyone else do it? He doubted it. Javin walked toward a tree and grabbed a stick. He wanted to throw it at the kids, such jerks, so defiant, and acting like they were all cool and better than the older people. They thought he was useless. They were wrong. His partners didn't think so, did they?
