Javin sat back in the chair. There was nothing to do right now. He thought about the kids, and wondered how they were doing. Cecilia had done a wonderful job and getting the three to come with them. He ran a hand through his thick red hair. He swallowed. Javin just wished his father was still alive so that he could have someone to talk to. If only he could see the kids one more time, and show them the promotion. Yes, he had moved up on the totem pole, but he didn't really know why. Then, if they could see him now, they would know that he wasn't worthless. He was someone, and he would show them.

Cecilia had not much happen on her trip, and she knocked once on the door before she opened it. She was pleasantly surprised to see that, unlike his younger 'brother', Aetius had made a semblance of progress with his Gift.
"Good job," she told him more because it was customary and everyone liked praise more than because she felt it was a particularly impressive feat. "Your communication skills seem pretty good, and that's something you can do on your own; perhaps you'd like to work on the other aspect of your Gift while the practice room is still open?" Cecilia figured the practice room was still safe enough for Aetius to practice his skill--Joshua hadn't shown much sign of progress and the worst that could happen was his wind would shove Aetius around a little--not a big deal. "Unless, of course, you'd like to stick around and--." What Aetius could stick around and do he never got to find out because just then, the door burst open, and a disheveled Joshua burst into the room, clutching his right shoulder.
Cecilia couldn't get any coherent words out of him for the first minute or so, mostly because he was still gulping down air.
"I got it!" he was saying excitedly, "It's finally--"
"What's wrong with your shoulder?" she cut in, gesturing at his shoulder.
"Kinda screwed up while doing it, but--"
"Doing what?"
"Let me finish, why don't you?" Joshua had warmed up to his teacher enough that he could speak against her, and after Cecilia crossed her arms with a resigned look, he continued, having calmed down. "I finally got them to cut. I mean it's still kinda slow, and I only got this"--he let go of his shoulder to indicate the cut fabric, which was now tinged with a little pink--"because I wasn't paying attention. You can't see it--it's still air, after all, but I thought it was pretty neat."
Cecilia thought Joshua had no reason to look so pleased seeing as he had hurt himself. "Show me after we patch you up. You couldn't have done this without cutting yourself up?"
As Cecilia rummaged around for some of her healing salve, Joshua ignored her comment and turned to Aetius and the bird on his arm. "Oh, he's very pretty. Is he just visiting?"
"Not sure," Aetius shrugged. "But that seems pretty cool, the whole, wind-cutting thing. Other than the fact that you scratched yourself." He laughed as Cecilia went to patch his little brother up. "Can't wait till you can make it rain." The hawk spread its wings for a moment, fluffing out its feathers, before Aetius turned back to Joshua. "By the way, Josh, while you're here, do you think you can help me with that algebra stuff later? I still don't get it."

"If he dies, then it will be God's will."
"If that was meant to be comforting, it was not."
"Everyone dies eventually. Once you are born, you begin to die."
"That was not comforting either!"
"It is the way of the Creed. Usually our deaths are violent but quick."
Javin stood. He had had enough with not being able to do anything, like lead any missions or anything like that, with his promotion. He stalked around the HQ, wondering where Cecilia was. She could tell him where to find Aetius and Joshua, and then they'd see for themselves that he was strong. But, Cecilia was nowhere in sight. Maybe the training room, he thought, and started toward the room.

Joshua made a strange noise, something between a sigh and an indignant snort, but only agreed with his brother. "Yeah. Rain reminds me of home, and it's something this place doesn't get enough of."
Cecilia finished patching up Joshua's arm and settled back to examine the torn sleeve. "Che. Boy, we are the Resistance. Rebellion. Rebels who are Gfited. You can bet your left butt cheek that these people aren't so keen for us to have their goods." The shirt was cotton, and cotton, to an extent was still part of a plant. Frowning, she gestured at it with a finger. "And how do we get our goods? We raid them."
Joshua yelped as he felt something moving around on his shoulder, and as he glanced down his eyes went wide as the shirt mended itself.
The green mage smirked as she rose. Giving him a solid pat on his back, she exited the room. "Help your brother with his math, and then come meet me at the cafeteria. Both of you. We've got a raid tonight, and you're coming." The door clicked shut.
Well, Cecilia hadn't been in the training room. He walked around for a long time until he saw her in the area where there were bedrooms and stuff. She was coming out of one of the rooms. Javin waved to her. "Hey there!" he called, racing toward her. He heard sounds in the room. There were people in there. The Gifted! He shook his head clear. "What's new? I haven't seen you in a while," he laughed. He liked talking to people. That's why it was torture to sit still with no one else there.

Cecilia's head was chock full of plans as she closed the door; a raid always required a lot of preparation, and although she'd had one in mind for some time, when time came to carry it out, there was always more to prepare for. Luckily, weather conditions, what with Joshua around, were not a problem anymore, but there was always the target building and its security....
A laugh intruded rudely, disrupting her line of thought, and she turned, irate as she snapped, "What is it?" When she saw it was just Javin, Cecilia sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Oh, it's just you. What do you want? If it's nothing that can't be taken care of later, I have things to prepare for." She stood, clearly itching to move on. Already, her thoughts were relapsing to preparations. They had been running out of clothes lately, but people who had no combat-based skills could do repairs until they leveled out their food supply. Lately there had been a food chain whose CEO had been speaking out against Gifted....
Victim confirmed, she started making a list of people to talk to to clear the mission.... once Javin finished speaking.
Javin raised his hand. "Nothing. Nevermind. It's not really that important," he said, and stepped aside to let Cecilia go by. He thought about how mad Aetius and Joshua would be when they saw him. Once Cecilia was gone, he would knock on the door and see if they would even let him in. He doubted that they would be happy to see him again. Even after he promised from the bottom of his heart to protect them with his life. He was a man that was true to his word. His father taught him to be honest and faithful before he had died.

"Alright." Cecilia disappeared down the long hallway without another word, deep in thought, heading towards her superior's office.

Joshua stared as the door clicked shut for a moment before shaking his head. "The nerve," he said. "A raid. Tonight. Would it have killed her to let us know ahead of time?"
Returning his attention to his brother, the blonde took a seat on the edge of Aetius' bed, gaze intent on the preening hawk. "So? Let's see it. The faster we can get that over with the faster we can see if we can wiggle our way out of the raid."

Javin stood in the hall until Cecilia disappeared, then he knocked on the door slowly. He hear the kids inside, but he didn't want to barge in. He knew that he shouldn't be thinking about it, but he still wanted to know if he was higher up than Sarah or Cecilia.
