He nods and gestures for her to get moving. "You should leave. Unless you really want to stay here and watch the city fall to pieces." He stares forwards and frowns. He doesnt't really know her - given he doesn't know her at all but that is completely not the point - but he understands that making the journey to find others alone is much more dangerous than with others. He hopes they will meet others on their way. "I'm not asking you to trust me," he adds, still looking forwards. "It doesn't make sense to trust others in a time like this, right? I don't know. This is gonna bring out the worst in people, if my feeling is right and it's not just Boston." He sighs and curses his inability to get his point across. Shutting his mouth, he remains silent after his small talk.

Emma's stomach sank. It was then that she realized she didn't want to go. But she knew she had to. "I'm not asking you to trust me," he added. It was true. He wasn't asking her to do anything. And maybe she should trust him. After all, he was advising her to leave. She thought on his words. She'd thought she'd seen the worst in people. But if the power going out made a nice guy steal a bike, who knows what it could do to unstable people. Her thoughts immediately drifted to her dad.

"Let's find a small town," She decided at last, "Let's leave here now." She took one last look around. It wasn't the first thing she wanted to do, but it was safe and away from city people. And it was the first thing she could think of. In the corner of her eye, she saw a dog wandering. For some reason, it made her immensely sad. She swung her leg over the bike, and started pedaling. Ignoring the world around her, she found comfort in the breeze that came with riding. Smiling, she tilted her head back, and let her hair blow, the sun warming her face. She could do it. She could survive in this crazy world. Suddenly a thought struck her. "Danvers!" She smiled, "My grandparents live out there, and it's a good town." She remembered how big the power plant was there. Maybe they could find some answers at a power plant, too.

"A small town," he repeats under his breath. He agrees half-heartedly and says nothing. At her exclamation, he starts and stares at her blankly. "Danvers... I can't say I've been there. Guess you're gonna get us there." Riding a bike is of less stress on his leg, so he relishes in the smoothness of the ride. He relishes in the feeling of freedom - of leaving a city that has caged him in for his entire life. He is not sure how she feels - apprehensive, certainly - but he is sure that he is happy to leave. Because it means a fresh start - the ability to leave behind a painful past. Maybe not a start, per se, he thinks, but more so an opportunity for him to be someone different. Maybe make a name for himself, beyond the boy whose career was torn apart - literally.

Ooc: Sorry for the inactivity. I've had NO CHANCE to get on the computer for the past few days.

Ic: Max listened to Trisha's suggestion, knowing that it would be safer to go home. But how long would it take before people would start breaking into houses? Max really didn't want to go back to the Knebels' house and leave his life in the hands of two adults he wasn't sure he trusted. He silently agreed that it would be best to stay together. When the girl offered to let them stay at her house, something clicked in his mind, but at the same time, he hesitated, not really sure if it was a good idea. Or had the time to be a good, rational person long since died? Would this really become survival of the fittest? Max let out a breath he just now realized he'd been holding, and looked up at Trisha. "Are your parents home? Because if not, your house seems like a good idea. It seems like it's closest. If they are though, I suppose we can try to hang out at my place for the time being." He looked from Trisha to Joanna, waiting for their answer, all the while very aware of the sounds of the increasingly loud, panicky town around them.

Trisha gave the boy a strange look, "Why would going to your house be any better? Mine's closer anyway. I don't know if my parents are home and we've only been gone for a little while. But if you really don't want to go, fine. You can find your own way home." The girl turned to look at Joanna, "Come on, we live on the same street. Might as well stick together for a little while longer." She didn't particularly care for Joanna, but if the streets were dangerous, it was better to travel in numbers.

Max was slightly taken aback by Trisha's hostility, but he tried to shake it off. "Look, I didn't mean it like that. I'll stick with you." With that, he gave a small nod and waited for her to take the lead. From up the street he heard shouting and he tensed, but decided he shouldn't worry much. It was probably just people being stupid, which actually didn't seem too odd right now. That was when, from the direction of the shouting, a group of about eight teenage and young adult boys emerged from the woodwork, all acting super tough and awesome. They were carrying knives and big cloth bags, probably filled with supplies, which were more than likely stolen. They seemed to just be passing through, but the sight of them damanded authority and attention, and they looked like they'd use those blades without a second thought. Max thought he racognized some of them from school, but shook the thought away and knew that it was probably best to get the heck out of sight. He grabbed Trisha and Jo by their shoulders and pulled them back behind a shed. "You know, I think we should definitely get to a house. I don't care whose, but I do know that we should do it fast. This doesn't look too good."

Joanna brushed off the boys hand. "Whoa buddy, no need to get all handsy. I know those guys, they won't touch you. Not if I'm with you. Scouts honor." She turned to the girl. "Your house works fine. Don't see no point in goin' home anyhow. No reason to have my old man yell at me some more. Lead the way, princess." Trisha was right, sticking together might be the best choice. She knew the boys over there, but who knows who else was pulling crazy stuff like that, ya know? Besides, what else did she have to do? No power, no nothing. Might as well stick with someone else.

Trisha frowned at the nickname princess. Since when was she spoiled and dainty? She shook away Joanna's sarcastic tone and led the way through some back alleys and back yards to her house. From what she could tell, there wasn't any movement inside. Where were her parents? The girl led the way to the back sliding glass door and brought her companions inside. "Mom? Dad?" she called out. No one answered. That was weird. "You guys stay here, or help yourself to some food in the fridge," she said before she turned and headed through the one story house. Her parents didn't seem to be anywhere inside. Had they taken off to go hang out with the Wilde family down the street? Her parents were good friends with those folks, so they probably went there. For now, the house was hers. Trisha made her way back to the living room near the kitchen, "My parents aren't home. You guys can stay here as long as you like."

As soon as the girl mentioned helping themselves to some food, Jo quickly went to the fridge and opened it. Frowning at what was inside, until she saw a bag of chips sitting out on the counter, unopened. She grabbed a can of soda from the fridge and then the bag of chips. Ripping them open and popping them in her mouth, realizing how hungry she was. She took a swig of the coke and then Trisha came back into the room. "Thanks, Trish-A, really." She said with a glowing smile, popping another chip in her mouth. "So, your house eh? Never even noticed it was here." She looked around the area. Wanting to know what the girl's room looked like. Probably perfectly tidy and organized. "So where's your room?" She asked, raising an eyebrow and smiling.

Trisha frowned and looked toward the hall, the movement betraying her. Shoot, now Joanna would want to be invited back there. "This way, just leave the chips and stuff in the kitchen. My parents freak if there is food anywhere else in the house," she said with a frown in her voice. "My room's this way." The girl led the way back down the hall to her room. When she opened it, she was greeted by the familiar warm scent of her own clothes. Her room was a faded shade of blue with dark blue trim around the lower half and the top half of the walls. There was sheet music pinned to all sorts of places in her room, shelves filled with CDs and records of bands from the past. Her room was clean enough to be healthy, and lived in enough to be comfortable. "This," she said with a half hearted gesture, "Is my room. Take a tour if you want."
